Stealth Club Vs The Rest

Robin,

I'm very happy with the result. Can you recommend an air filter?
I'm planning on returning to Stealth to get the suspension sorted when I get a chance, so perhaps you could fit a better filter and stick it on teh rolling road again to see what difference that gives.

Cheers,
Si

Hi Simon
every map that we do on the roling road will be tuned for that car so all the maps will not be the same.
As for the the BHP it all depends on what you have got at start as all the A2s are not the same if you have more at the start like you then the gaine is less

maybe you need to change your air filter or maybe it is the fule that you use as all these things will make a change to the BHP that you can get if you was to put your car on the rollers then it could give a diffrent reading +or - as mine has been on with diffrent fule and the reading was down a bit but it was the same map the weather also has a lot to do with it as well
but the maine thing is that the car is better for the remap
so don't be envious!!! enjoy what you have but we all want more:confused:

Cheers
Robin

now done.....

Managed to squeeze mine in today, with the following results:

Standard:

80.6bhp/154Ib

Remap:

98.7bhp/173.9Ib.

What a difference. I'm so glad I've had it done. The engine now pulls right to the redline (as everyone has already said ;) )

Hi Simon
BMC do a filter for the A2 or a KN filter

Representing the 'Others'

Well now that the competition is closed, I can finally reveal the results of the recent fettling by Awesome (www.awesome-gti.co.uk):

Before:
94.78bhp
198.35 torques

After:
131.22bhp @ 2146rpm
255.39 torques @ 1748rpm

I think you'll agree that these are pretty good figures, which are undoubtedly helped by the K&N air filter and Milltek Sport exhaust system.

The next step will be an induction kit, as the route that air has to take to get into the cylinders is pretty convoluted to say the least. Then, I'll be looking into a gearbox re-build to take advantage of all that torque, as 1st gear is pretty much redundant now, apart from steep hill starts and even then, it's still too short.

Cheers,

Mike

induction kit

The induction kit is out of the question at the mo as there is a vacuum pipe just before the MAF and if you change to a induction kit then there wont be any vacuum and the engine smokes and plays up.:(
john put a kit on his A2 and had all sorts or problems with his 75 bhp the configuration of the air filter some how creates a vacuum for this pipe.
But we are still looking it to this.
so hopefully we can over come this problem and put a induction kit on.
Cheers

I'll add Tank to the stats after the compo closes next Saturday.

Although in the Awesome Club, rather than the Stealth Society (I do have a little advert for them both though), Tank has been thoroughly fettled by Robin, John, Graham and Vince, especially in the suspension department, so he could be an honorary member, I suppose.

Cheers,

Mike

HI mike
He can be a member of the stealth club we do not discriminate against any one especially the tank as we have thoroughly fettled with him:eek:

Cheers

Mike, that is truely impressive result! Don't I want a tdi badly now! Shame the exhaust is not being made anymore.

More important though, I hope the club has raised some money through the competition.

Hiya Humps,

The club has raised a fantastic amount, and thanks to you in particular for your generous donation.

The chaps at Milltek have said that if we get 10 (minimum) firm orders together, they will make a batch of exhausts for us, so all isn't lost!

Cheers,

Mike

Paid a visit to Vince at the weekend. He managed to fit me in amongst assorted 'hot' VR6 Corrados, results as follows:

Before:
86.6 bhp
165.1 lb ft

After:
104.7 bhp
181.7 lb ft

Great team and great result. Finally I'm not risking life and limb when overtaking...

wow

i got stealthed yesterday the wife got sick of me asking for a remap

I Would like to say a very big Thank You to Vince , John, & Robin at Stealth Racing for giving me an early xmas present at the A2OC Rolling Road meet ....

I would like to inform all A2 Owners that have passed Stealthracing doors that if you have had a remap done recently then you are offered a Free upgrade to the latest map ......

I Was given a free upgrade as a complete surprise , and to think i nearly did not go becuase of work , Im so glad i attended ....

Stealtracing have once again made it clear to me that they are the tuning masters when it comes to all things A2 so if
your thinking of getting a remap done on your petrol or diesel A2 then i cant say enough about Stealths expertise or goodwill
Give Vince a ring You will not be dissapointed ...

They can know also offer a remap for the FSi as Ben will be able to tell you ....

Bring on ADi next year ive know got a few more bean's LOL :D

Indeed they can. I only had the rolling road session before the remap - and this showed that my car was pretty much as delivered by the dealer (110.5bhp). I asked Vince for a gentle map - he bumped up the curves by about 5% in the higher rev range across most of the tunable parameters. After the remap, the power certainly feels available a little sooner. I want to monitor the fuel economy over the next couple of weeks before deciding on whether the extra power is worth it though. I'll be revisiting Stealth in the new year for a follow-up session to see if we need to tweak it further (up or down).

Once again I am looking to have our TDI chipped; the first time it all went wrong, was booked in with AMD and 2 weeks before the date the gearbox failed.

I have been looking but I am not convinced, theres that little voice saying remember the gearbox and the bill for £2.5k (warranty).

So a few questions...

Does it add that much stress to the components - Engine, gearbox, clutch etc?
Does it dump out a lot a black smoke
Does it under normal driving have a huge effect on mpg
Have you lot told the insurance comanys if so how much extra

and how much is it.

I had my 75 Tdi Sport re-mapped in the summer, and had the same concerns as you. The other one I had was around emmissions and whether the car would still pass the MOT.

There is bound to be an effect on the car's components, especially the turbo which has to work harder. But after talking to a few people decided it was on balance worth it. If you're going to drive the car hard with or without the re-map you're going to reduce longevity.

There seems to be no affect on emmissions, in fact when I had the MOT done after the re-map the first run showed a reading too low to register, and the guy had to do it again - he couldn't beleive how lean the engine was running. I have noticed it does push out more black stuff if you push the engine - it's burning more fuel (or not as the case may be!), but in normal driving there's no noticable difference.

MPG will suffer especially in the first few weeks - as you'll be too tempted to use the extra (significant) performance. But again in normal driving there's no difference. In fact I think I've gained couple of MPG on my motorway commute.

With the insurance it generally equates to the same increase in £s as the % increase in performance - so you're looking at 40% increase. But it is hard to see how any insurance company could know the work has been done - unless a) the drive it or b) read the map and know what the parameters should be. It's your call...

Personally I am delighted with the results. The car has been transformed, fair smoother, effortless, and will surprise many bigger cars on the motorway ( or anywhere else) when you pull away from them...!

Might be taking up the offer of teh free stealth upgrade!!

How long before it goes bang?

Hi, I've just bought a 2003 TDi 75, in fact i've not even collected it from the dealer yet! I did two test drives in the car, one of which included 20 minutes on the motorway and I did notice the top end felt a little flat (compared to my other, bigger car). The addition of a tuning map seems the way to go...

What is the longest time / mileage anyone has had with the 100+ BHP re-map? One, two years max? Are there any long term affects? Turbo failure perhaps?

On an earlier post it was noticed after the re-map the car was running lean, on a petrol engine this can lead to problems, what affect does the fuel / air mixture have on a diesel?

Finally, do I need to mod other things to cope with the power, such as brakes, suspension etc.?

Hopefully I've bought a decent one, if not, expect a low milage, blue SE spec to be in the Thames Valley Autotrader soon!
