Stealth Club Vs The Rest

Tank, my A2, has been re-mapped to around the 115-120 bhp mark for 3 years now with zero problems. Admittedley, that is starting off with a 90PS engine, not a 75, but I don't think that the longevity of any engine component is in doubt, of the mapping is carried out by a reputable tuner.

Cheers,

Mike

What is the difference mechanically between the 75 and the 90? Does the 90 come with a different ECU from Audi? I wanted the 90 with all the gizmos, but diesel A2s seem to be flying off the forecourts at the moment so I settled on a 75 as it was reasonable money an quite tidy.

With a re-mapped 75, you will have a pretty good approximation of the 90 anyway, only with a little more power, so don't fret about not getting the first choice.

There are many differences between the 75 and 90 PS cars, but the basic engine blocks are pretty much identical.

There are different turbos, exhaust manifolds and downpipes, different injectors, intercooler, clutch and flywheel. Oh and the gearboxes are different too!

There are probably other bits I've missed, but someone else will doubtless fill them in.

Cheers,

Mike

I Would like to say a very big Thank You to Vince , John, & Robin at Stealth Racing for giving me an early xmas present at the A2OC Rolling Road meet ....

I would like to inform all A2 Owners that have passed Stealthracing doors that if you have had a remap done recently then you are offered a Free upgrade to the latest map ......

I Was given a free upgrade as a complete surprise , and to think i nearly did not go becuase of work , Im so glad i attended ....

Stealtracing have once again made it clear to me that they are the tuning masters when it comes to all things A2 so if
your thinking of getting a remap done on your petrol or diesel A2 then i cant say enough about Stealths expertise or goodwill
Give Vince a ring You will not be dissapointed ...

They can know also offer a remap for the FSi as Ben will be able to tell you ....

Bring on ADi next year ive know got a few more bean's LOL :D

Stealth Racing
Before
85.8 bhp @ 4053rpm
163.1lb/ft @ 2569rpm
After
98.7 bhp @ 3288rpm
178.6lb/ft @ 2625rpm

New Performance Figures
110 bhp
189.6lb/ft

Hi Carl,

Having had the new Stealth map for a few days now, I was just curious to know what your thoughts are on the revised performance?

I am all for the new ponies gain, but how does this compare in real day to day driving?

I ask because I can't decide whether to opt for this new map myself. In general I rely on the torque and rarely 'red line' the car and with my current figure so impressive...

Stealth Remap

BHP :- 100.2 @ 3822 rpm
Torque :- 213.4lbft @ 2182 rpm

... I am wondering whether I might lose out somewhat; needing to rev much higher to take advantage of the enhanced power. Besides which, this will now be a generic map where as my current one is car specific.

Thoughts appreciated.

Cheers mate.

Darren

Hi

Does anyone know the boost pressure from the turbo in standard format. either in PSI or Bar presssure. and if this is increased with the remap, what it then goes up to. Or is it all done by fuel increase?

It's not as easy as that - there are loads of parameters that are modified in some way, smoke, boost, fuelling, EGR rates, throttle positions etc.

A good tuner, such as Vince at Stealth, will tweak many of these parameters to obtain the best possible combination of power, economy and driveability.

A bad tuner will just up the boost and increase fuelling, with no regard to what effect these have on things like smoke output and driveability.

Cheers.

Sounds good, I keep thinking about it and then the "i'm keeping it for 10 years" springs to mind and I back off. I am starting to see more positives then potential negative now though:D

There's little to loose* and everything to gain with a reputable remap

* = apart from paying for it!

10 years, is that all? I'll be keeping Tank until one of us dies, and it'll probably be me first!

Have a word with Vince@Stealth or Sarah@Awesome for an idea of how to proceed.

Cheers,

Mike

lol

Yeah I say ten years but I'm nearly half way there and the car still feels like new, so I think I will be keeping it longer! I will give the chap at Stealth a call soon

My car was re-remapped at the weekend , Most of the week i use the workvan so the A2 stays on the drive most of the time , Everytime i do get in it i just cant stop smiling ....
I now see the A2 as a bit of a Wolf in Sheeps clothing especially since Vince once again worked his magic ..On occasion i've had a few people at work taking the schmichael out of my car but everyone who has had a laugh at my expense i have silenced them with the performance from my car ........So when i told them i had an extra 10bhp guess what i now have people queing up wanting a drive LOL !!!!

Darren C with a torque figure of 213lb/ft I Personally would leave it at that if i could have got 213lb/ft and 100Bhp i would have also been well happy why would you want to change it ......Its the Torque that gives you the feeling of power and throws you back in your seat ....

On the question what is it like driving day to day well it depends on how you want to drive , if its just a case of popping down to the shops for a pint of milk then it just feels like any other A2 , But if on the way to the shop some Nice person cuts you up and you want to do a bit of Rubbing then the extra power is Very Useful if you know what i mean , I do have to hold myself back and try and keep the revs down to just over 2000 Rpm or else ive noticed a slight thirst for fuel ....Im not sure if the acceleration is as good lower down the rev range as before but I have noticed the power band has risen and revs much higher but once up above 2500 it just keeps on going and going and going ....Great for overtaking ...

One of the things i noticed when i first got my A2 was how bad the brakes where so if your thinking of going down the remap route you may want to upgrade your brakes as i have done , Suspension also makes a big difference in the handling department .....And makes for a much safer all round package .....

The way i look at it is how many other cars can you have this much fun in and i mean fun for £35 Tax and i take great pleasure in telling my friends when they come to Taxing there Gaz Guzzlers ....

Totally agree mate - the torque suits my driving style more than extra horses would.

Thanks for such a comprehensive reply - had to ask the question just in case... ;)

Cheers,

Hey Torquey Boy Tin Tin
will we be seeing you and Di on the track next year :p

The only torque that I do is 'talk' mate - not brave enough to risk the ol' girl out there and walk the walk - especially when your rear view mirror is filled with 'pine green A2'... :D

HaZeL goes in tomorrow.

Though she's not playing fair; she's started to rumble under heavy braking, she's fine on the normal to-from work trips, its only when on the duel carrageways when breaking from 60+ etc, but then not right away.

Could it be the rear shoes?

Anyhow will ask tomorrow..

Well good news and bad;

Good news is that I dont have any problems with the brakes - not now the fronts have been replaced and the rears cleaned and adjusted.

Bad news is that she was not well enough to be remapped - see new thread on intercooler failure
