Temperature gauge woes

there are two temp senders. what does vcds say?

at idle.... huh, can't say well, but if it is on Hi and two bars, within 5 mins I would see ice on the outside melting at 0 ambient.

Interesting twist today. On testing the interior temp and running the car at 19deg and 2 bars I have notice that cold air is not working. No matter what temp I select it is putting out full heat. Any ideas what this may be as it sounds like the source of my cool running engine.

It could be a fault with the temperature control flap motor "sticking". This normally manifests itself after running on hot temperatures all winter and then requires a diagnostic reset when spring arrives.

The motors themselves are around £100 for a brand new VAG part... I am told that if faulty they are a bit fiddly to replace but can be accessed from the back of the glove box as opposed to removing the whole dash. This may not be your problem but perhaps something to consider.

Hi,

information on changing the temperature flap motor:

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...t-control-and-windscreen-demister-flap-motors

You can also check the operation of the motor "by eye" after removing the glove box as you can see the gears. Although the temperature control is thermostatic (position normally depends on engine and cabin temperature), the "HI" and "LO" settings will always give full heat and full cold and so will check the movement in both directions.

Note that you might have an "intermittent" connection issue inside the motor which only manifests when the car is moving and so being shaken about. It might work perfectly when stationary.

More information on the climate unit:

BTW, stuck on full heat requires driving round with the windows open, even when snowing, at least on the FSI!

regards

Andrew

Than you Spike. It turned out that my erratic temperature gauge was due to a faulty thermostat. Gauge now works fine and heater gets warm quicker. But I still have the "missfire". See new thread.
