Trim swap over

Compare this shot of Platinum Sport seats with the one above.
In this shot it does look like an SE seat base, but only because it is looking down on the seat (as in the shot above)

See how the shape of the seat back bolster on the bottom right looks exactly like the one above.

Hi folks,

Sport seats have larger side bolsters on both the base and the back of the seats. The shape and size of these bolsters did not change from the first to the last A2. The only change that was made to Sport seats came with the release of the 2002 model year, when electric lumbar support became standard.

Some members have made hybrid seats, taking the base from SE seats and the back from Sport seats or vice versa. Unless a previous owner has done this to the seats that Nat has available (which strikes me as unlikely), then they are of the SE design.

Steve, I take your point about the back bolster appearing to protrude quite far, but this could simply be because the seat is wound quite far forward. I think if we had another few photos, we'd all agree that these are SE seats.

Cheers,

Tom

Here's my platinum sports seats, just to fuel the debate!

Whats actually wrong with the A2, would it be easier just to fix what needs fixing and run this one , or then resell perhaps

Poss head gasket few lights on the dash it's generally abit rough

Haven't got time to go on with it got 2 other A2 projects lol

£350 is very reasonable - i remember looking for rear bench leather a couple of years ago and was told that they very rarely come up for sale !. :)

I don't expect them to sell quick as the 5 seater A2s are rare

What for someone who is an enthusiast and wants to change to leather who's got a 5 seater is prob even rarer lol

Just believe you can't fit a bench seat in a 4 seater just seems daft they are the same car lol

A gentle reminder here of forum rules. This 'trim swap' thread has apparently morphed to a classified advert. Quite innocently I don't doubt that. However anything being sold should only be posted in the marketplace which has a mandatory donation applied.

Other examples have been overlooked of recent so there's no need to move posts or take any action. We need to revamp our marketplace and review the pay wall. It's not really fair to have to pay 10 pounds to sell low value parts for example. A car yes - but we need a rethink on other items .

Yes I was lucky enough to have two, an A2 with four seats and an A2 with 5 and so I had a go at a "simple swap" several years ago.

It started out well, the front lugs on the rear seats easily swapped over.
But when I lowered the seats into place it was obvious that the holes in the floor were different.
I assumed (stupidly as it turns out) that Audi would not waste tooling to use a different floor layout for each of the two options.

I thought that surely every A2 would have both layouts in the one floor and that Audi would not have two different floors, so I looked to see if the other mounting holes were just blanked off perhaps, but no.

Next thing was to see if somehow the floor could be drilled and tapped to take the moutings for the other layout.
But the flor is so substantial there (for obvious reasons) that it was clearly not a DIY job.

Could an engineer perhaps sort out the moungtings? Possibly, but the cost would be huge with the possible need to get under the car to move things around.

So in short is it a possible swap? Possible? perhaps, Feasible? no.

Audi would not be stupid, I am sure that if they could develope a floor to take both options they would. So there may well be a technical reason why they did this? Safety and security of the mountings perhaps?

After a hard days work IVE GOT IT TO FIT

Hi Nat,

Please can you confirm that the method you have used is ULTRA safe?

The mounting is put under huge strain in a shunt and the seat belt anchoring forms part of the seat.

We do need to ensure that we as a club do not encourage safety related conversions.

If you have managed to do it to a high standard then that would be of benefit for others to consider, if they feel it is safe.

Looking forward to details!
