Upgrade of front seats with Recaro S3 sport seats

yeah thats basically it,

before you buy the seats, check on the recaro website if they have the runners

even if they are not listed, they told me that most of the seats are very universal, and there specific A2 runners will make them fit (the issue is the height adjustment)

I almost had a very nice set, top of the range recaro's trendline sport, with all the goodies, even with the build in ventilators (mist it by Gbp 20,-)

Well like i said the search is on, - should not have posted this, cause now i have more competition

I'd be looking for full electric with the heated seat control actually on the seat as I don't really want to have to source, and replace my climate control unit.

Therefore, from what you've said, it doesn't matter too much what the seats come out of so long as I source the correct runners (which are..?) to fit the A2 and utilise the full-electric adjustment..

Ian, watch out for overall seat width. Possibly not an issue with Recaros, but with things like RS4 seats (also Recaros confusingly) the squab is too wide to fit into the A2.

Cheers,

Mike

If you look on the recaro website, you can select the same seat - non oem branded, and see if they do a runner for it, if they do a runne for it, it will fit

Thanks guys - I will have a read up on this!

Havank - don't worry, I'm not buying yet!

Thank god for that,

I will do a full write up when i am successfull - we have experience in upgrading the interior, and doing some re-upholstery activities, i am currently doing my son's astra conversion from cloth into full leather recaro seats :D

Not sure if this applies to Audi but I have heard that factory fit Recaros are often custom made to the manufacturers specification so the fixings for Recaro aftermarket runners may be different. Anything can be made to fit but it may not be a simple bolt on job.

Cheers Spike

Have you managed to fit the A4 seats

I have the same problem and want to replace the seats - have seen a couple of sets on e bay - have you had any luck with fitting replacement seats.
My problem is that the seat squab on the A2 doesnt tilt and so there is not enough support

As above, you will not be able to buy runners from recaro to fit VAG seats in to any car!!

The base is designed for the car!!

I did a guide on fitting mk4 golf recaros in to my lupo GTI on club lupo, it involved swapping the seat base and cutting the supports for the bolsters and re welding them.

Im not sure on the A2 seat frame design but when i get one i will have a look and tell you what's what!

MK4 golf/Audi A3 S3,seat leon cupra, seats are the same runners, TT use a different runner system, i suspect the A2 is not like any of these as the seat height if i recall is higher?

With the Mk4 golf etc it fixes on 3 points, 2 runners and a front centre that is bolted.

The TT is not like this, from what i can remember it has 1 long runner down each sied? fits corsa's easier than most VW's???? LOL

Hope this helps?

Having now taken ownership of the A2 i can now confirm that S3/golf/seat front seats are different.

They look to be TT style runners, as per this stolen picture!:D

Compare this to a A3 style runner.

I have to admit, I'm a little confused by your findings..

What do you think should fit, and what shouldn't!?

Its pretty self explanatory if you read it but in short!!!

Old style A3/S3, mk4 Golf, seat leon. etc wont fit (3 point runners)

New style A3/S3 mk5 golf, new style A4, TT Etc should fit.(2 long runners)

Im not saying that the full interior will fit, but the topic asked if S3 front will fit. The rears i have no idea? i doubt that it is possible with out lots of modding!!!

Pictures are there as a aid, showing the runners on the different types of seat that look to be the same as the A2.

For my money id fit Late A4 or TT fronts with a matching retrim for the rear.

Hi
Am a new A2 owner , and i want to fit leather seats front and rear. Haveing read this thread i sort of have an idea that new s3 or TT seats will fit in the front.
What about any direct fit seats without any mods?? any what seats fit in the rear?
Ok how about VW LUPO seats...will they fit straight in??? The rears in them look like the same split ones.

Hello and welcome.

The only seats which fit into A2s without modification are A2 seats. The A2's rear seats are, to my knowledge, unique. No other car has seats of a similar footprint/mechanical design. Some other car's front seats can be adapted to fit an A2.
If you're looking for leather seats, one way to do it is to have your existing seats re-trrimmed. Trim-star in Kent look like they do a high-quality job, though I've no personal experience of them.
Occasionally leather seats will be listed on here or on eBay, a full set selling for ca £650.

Hope that helps,

Tom

Thanks for that, but would seats in a VW Lupo fit?? Is there a list of other makes and models interiors that will fit on this site?....whats the easiest way to fit leathers into my A2 ( buying from ebay ) as getting original A2 leathers is very very hard to find...Thanks

The front seats from a Lupo may or may not fit, but modification will almost certainly be required one way or another. I've never read of anyone using Lupo seats before, though. The only way to find out is to do a direct comparison of their mounting and mechanisms. Mk1 TT seats fit with a bit of modification, I believe.
As for the rear seats, it's A2, A2 and A2.

The easiest way to get leather seats it to take your car to a trimmer, such as Trim-Star or B-Trim. For front and back, they'll charge about £800, but you'll get a very high quality job and it'll be like new.
If you've found leathers on eBay that are custom cut for A2 seats, you can either have a go at fitting them yourself or you can take them and the car to a trimmer and see what price you can negotiate to have them fit them for you.

Hope that helps,

Tom

I was lining up to get a re-trim done at Trimstar, but then I was lucky enough to snag a set of leathers from the forum. I did also speak to them about getting a forum group discount, but that was some time ago now...

Dan, how did they respond to your talk of a forum group discount? Did they laugh down the phone, or did they seem reasonably receptive to the idea.
I'd have to do a bit of saving first, but I'm very keen on the idea of a re-trim.

They were receptive to the idea and gave me some (small) discount figures but remember this was probably 18months ago.
