Used car valuations

It is rarer I believe. Not sure why but I imagine it could be because of the original list price? I.e. if you wanted to pay £15k (I think this was the list for a 1.4 sport) at the dealer you would be more inclined to spend that money on a TDI or FSI at a lower spec, than higher spec on the basic engine? Just an idea.

Hi,
Hope I am posting in the correct place - apologies if not

We are looking to sell my wife's 2004 1.6fsI SE Colourstorm.

I have checked the valuation site linked at the start of this thread but am unsure how to value the car as it currently has a couple of issues;

1. Opensky not working
2. EML on (manifold flap sticking)
3. Alloys quite badly kerbed

The car has just ticked over 100,000 miles, is MOT'd until June 2014 & taxed til December.
Full service history (not all main dealer but I have all receipts for genuine Audi parts)
New pads all round & 2 new tyres in last month

My wife is looking into getting a lease car so we will probably just look to sell the A2 as is, rather than rectifying the issues stated. Any ideas on a valuation taking the above into account would be appreciated.

If that's all the problems the car has its worth fixing the manifold flap and refurb the alloys for a better price. The opensky is still within the warranty period when it could be replaced so realistically that shouldn't impact on value markedly.

The guide looks about right at the £4000 mark 'if' you fixed the problems and prepared it for a private sale; but will lower towards £3000 if you just want it off your hands as it is. An engine management light will always be a dampener on a sale - even if you are certain what the problem is. Most people would wonder - why not just fix it?

Thanks for that - was actually a bit taken aback (in a good way) by the valuation which has got me wondering whether it's worth sorting the issues to maximise it's value.
Certainly some food for thought!

I think it's worth it. But be aware that A2 prices have definitely softened in the last year, so you may not realise the guide price which pleasantly surprised you.

That said, by fixing the issues mentioned ( excluding the opensky) you are much more like to secure a quick sale at a reasonable price. Ah the gambles inherent in used car trading!! ;)

Good find Sam, well done. Did that adjust for mileage and was it a trade figure only which was quoted?

Edit: ran our '04 Tdi 90 Sport through this with 87k miles and it returns 2900 - 3125.

I ticked all the privacy fields as well - but lets see if I start getting bumph from Honda anyway.

That has to be the auction prices that are quoted as its a bit short of what I'd expect and I'd be hoping for towards 4500 in a private sale.

But maybe the bums fallen out the A2 market! Lucky I'm not selling

I've only tried the 'part ex' option, I would hope I could haggle that up to a firm £2000 or get the price of the new one down the same way. It has succeeded in showing the Ford dealer we went to yesterday plain lied about the best CAP value of our Skoda by about £300!

p.s. if anyone is feeling cheeky and wants to avoid the marketing blurb, use a www.mailinator.com address instead of your own :D

Just purchased my second A2, the first being petrol, this one is a Special Edition 1.4TDI. However, since getting it home I've noticed a subtle difference in paint work on the front of the car (not mentioned by the previous owner who'd had it for 4+ years - in his 60s and selling due to retirement). I guess it's had a rebuild at some point but the lines (panel shuts) are really good which is why I didn't spot it before now. And nowt came up in the way of a cat D or C or worse when I insured it.

My question is, is £3.3k a good price for an 05 Special Edition with 100k Mileage, full service history but the last 30k are at a local garage. It’s had new cam belt and Water pump (according to the service receipts at 96k) serviced every 10k and seems to drive really well.

Also I know very little about this particular model... There is no handbook or a 2nd and 3rd spare key so I'm hoping to fill in the details and build up a useful info pack should I decide to stick with this one for the long haul

The front panels are plastic rather than alu if I recall correctly? So perhaps that is the cause of the difference that you can see.

Is there any spray-over?

Sounds like a good price to me.

No over-spray in fact it looks very neat and even coated which suggests a good bodyshop, if nowt else, but just a smidgen darker (close up pic attached). No idea what this particular colour is tbh... I'm guessing cobalt blue?

I'm just a bit paranoid due to buying a complete lemon of a 2002 1.4 Polo S previously (about 2 years ago) for my daughter's first car, which looked the job and had the all important full dealer history but wow we had to thrown a big chunk of extra change at the electronics and stupid little faults that would stop it running properly and it only had 55k on the clock. Suffice to say I sold quite recently to put what cash we could get back in to another A2.

Welcome to A2OC. Your car is Mauritius Blue. Maybe a front end prang in it's early life wasn't matched in properly. I only speculate on early life as anything recent requiring a new front end would invariably write the car off.

Agree that 3300 is a good deal for a reasonable 05 TDi on 100k with full history.

Good luck with the car and if you need any help it's never far from hand in the club.

Yes I figured it must have been an early repair... But encouraging to hear I've not paid over the odds. I fully intend to upgrade and renew the important bits before I look at cosmetics. The main thing is to get some mileage under me belt and make sure it's a solid reliable runner.

Blummin' marvellous ride back from the purchase in Rochdale back to Harrogate up and down dale (via Skipton), the scenic route... It didn't take long to put a smile on my face that's fe sure! And that's what these cars are all about imo.

Thanks again peeps ;-)

Turns out the paint is original and just showing slight signs of fade/reaction between the two different materials. Apparently quite common to see this occur on early Renault Clios, the first small car to have plastic wings and metal panel mixed bodywork. I guess that's one of those only time will tell moments.

The front wings do look a different shade at various angles in certain light. As you say, most likely the mix of plastic wings and metal body causing that. I notice this a lot on A2 pics. So its normal. :)
