2 stroke oil in diesel...anyone tried it?

Bumped into this site which I've never seen before...

This lot are only 30 minutes or so from where I live. They seem to know their stuff where diesel engines are concerned, even if their website is littered with value judgements and thinly-veiled political opinions. Also, whilst I know spelling and grammar is a touchy subject on the forums at the moment, rightly or wrongly, sentences like this from a professional outfit simply do not inspire confidence...
"Diesel engines could of taken a very different route. The emphasis could of been to build engines that could safely and reliably use 100% vegetable oil based fuels that had a no reliance on fossil fuels at all. Should diesels of taken the vegetable based fuel route massive areas of land would of been required to grow the necessary crops"

could have = could've ≠ could of
Since when was 'of' a verb?

I know quite a few mechanics that can't write, but are brilliant with machines

The 'of' irritates me too, but as Hooley says, mechanical & grammatical skills don't necessarily come together. That point about taking land use away from food production is a good one, even if they don't express it well.

... even if their website is littered with value judgements and thinly-veiled political opinions. ...

I actually like that even if I don't agree with them, since it shows that they're unafraid to say what they think. It's heavily-veiled opinions I don't like.

True. Like I say, they clearly know their diesel engines, which is ultimately what counts. But, if I was creating a website for my business, I'd consider getting someone with the required skills to check it for me.

However valid or otherwise their political opinions, I'm not sure it's the sort of website content that'll attract business, but it's their choice.

Does anyone know the shelf-life of 2-stroke oil?
Motorex sell it in 1L and 60L containers. At 200ml per tank of fuel, that's 5 tanks of fuel per litre of oil.
However, a 60L container would do me for about 150,000 miles of driving! Can the oil last that long!?

Cheers,

Tom

Brilliantly hopeful. I love the attitude.

Two Stroke Oil Mixed In With Diesel?

Hi Everyone,

I'm a happy new A2 TDI 75 owner. I used to have a VW T4 2.5 TDI Multivan and on the forums people there recommended adding a small amount of two stroke oil to a tank of diesel - 100-200 mls i think. Anyone tried this in their A2 TDI?

Many thanks in anticipation... Pete

Just beat me to it spike! For what its worth the benefits of 2SO seem to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, it doesn't have quite the same impact with my Freelander 2 that it has in the A2 although when used with premium fuels such as Vpower in the FL it is better (and I have tried all combinations of fuel/2SO).

I use 200ml 2SO and 50ml diesel reddex with every tankfull. I only use Shell Vpower.
The engine runs smoother and with much less "clatter". I have also noticed slightly better fuel consumption - not that I care too much about that. Driving pleasure is much more important to me .

LOL I should have looked around first. Just thought I was being radical! On here!
Oh, I have a lot to learn
Thanks again... Pete

I'm also a convert to 2-stroke oil as it makes the TDI much smoother. The epic thread that Spike links also suggests that a certain specification is very good for keeping the PD unit injectors clean.
Unlike Tony, I've got the smaller 34-litre fuel tank rather than the larger 42-litre tank. As such, the combined 250ml that Tony puts into his tank would be too much for me. I put in 200ml of 2-stroke of specification API TC + ISO L-EGC + JASO FC, without the Reddex (though I ought to try this, too!).

So far, I know of only two oils available in the UK that match this precise specification:
Shell Advance VSX 2 - http://www.shell.co.uk/gbr/products-...nce-vsx-2.html
Motorex Two Stroke 2T - http://www.motorex.com/index.cfm?oid...eintragId=7446

Cheers,

Tom

After some research, I found that the Shell product meets the specs fully.
I use this in combination with the Vpower and I have a happy little car.

I'm also going to try the trick on my Mitsubishi 4x4.

There are a number of 2SO oils that met the spec at less cost than Shell too. I use Comma semi-synthetic FC spec oil at the moment (£6/litre) and have used mineral FB spec (as little as £4/litre) without any problems.

So, at, say £6/litre, you get 4 "shots" .... that's £1.50 for each fill-up. And say that's about 30 litres, then it's like the fuel being 5p more a litre .... I suppose that premium diesel fuels are that much more ("V-power"?) I'm always pleased to buy fuel at a reduced cost .... I suppose that an extra 5p would just be affordable .... I might give it a try!

Given that you've got a 2002MY A2, you'll have the smaller fuel tank and therefore should only put 200ml of 2-stroke per tank, meaning you'll get 5 tanks per litre.
The stuff I buy costs about £8/litre, meaning it costs about £1.35 extra per tank, taking into account that I obviously buy 200ml less diesel. Whilst I like a good deal like anyone else, this is a cost I'm happy to pay. If it keeps my TDI running smoothly and prevents build-up of deposits around the injectors tips, then it's a price worth paying in my opinion.

^^^^ what he said! And there is the improved mpg to take into account which given my experience of around 5% gain somewhat offsets the the cost of the 2SO.....
