Today I.....

Could you pls advise on whos the best a2 diagnoser and fixer in north east London?
Thanks j

You lucky boy! Lol. Looked a nice car that one. Weird how you can only feel 50bhp? Hmmmm. You sure? Is the engine light on or has it been taped over? Have you access to get it scanned for faults? I know an expert who fixed mine but he's over In Stains next to Heathrow. If your interested pm me. Could even meet up possibly if your going to to stains 2 lovely FSI's together would look good.

Used radio arrived, in a disgraceful state but the buttons were ok. Facia scratched and looked like a gorilla with a screwdriver removed it. Thankfully the unit came to bits ok, swapped the circuit board with volume (faulty on mine) over as well and swapped the best buttons into my facia. Wired in the aux input /cd cable and attached the Bluetooth . It worked! Only small problem is the A2 has a constant live on the 12v socket so I will have to unplug the Bluetooth unit when parked. Replacement eBay radio £25, adaptor £18, Bluetooth £10. Will test it tomorrow on the way to work ?

Why not tap into the switched 12v that goes into the head unit?

Only cars with generation 1 head units (one knob) are wired with switched live.
Later cars fitted with the generation 2 head units (two knobs) only have a permanent live wired and the OEM head units use CAN BUS signalling to know when the ignition is switched on.
The nearest existing switched live is on the climate control unit though.

Andrew

How was the factory fitted CD changer powered? My mk4 golf has both switch and permanent live.

Thanks guys, I might have a look at the power out to the aux unit as it powers up when aux is switched on, I only need the Bluetooth live when aux is active.

Any chance of scanning those figures in for posterity? I'd love to know roughly how much mine cost when new :)
It's above this post
Did you not think about getting a Merlin engine installed transversely to go with the boost gauge?
No but I new a chap who has a working scale model Merlin built to run a pencil sharpener in his office (Patrick Lindsay), he sadly long gone...often wondered where that engine is now!

Have a look at
It's not strictly a Merlin, but a Metor engine, but it's the same technology. I have a soft spot for SD1s as I worked on them at BL as part of my graduate training in Canley

Merlin3046 - whatever you worked on - it can't have been rustproofing :).

Jamfit - have you found your missing 60bhp on the FSI yet? I saw that ad on Gumtree 20 mins after listing. If it had been anything other than an FSI I'd have been racing you to Rochester...….

He beat me to it by 10 minutes .
Still never mind, the alternative I got also felt sluggish but after a tankful of BP plus Wynns additive and 320 spirited miles its feeling livelier, especially over 3500 rpm when it now pulls cleanly up to 6000 rpm. Did have engine light come on.... misfire on Cyl 4 but cleared it and has not come back.
Just filled with V Power plus dose of Wynns Gold. Fingers crossed

Following on from an emergency front brake pad change needed on new years eve. I decided to have the tracking checked, as abnormal wear was noticed on inside edge of front tyres. Garage checked and adjusted they said it was approx 4degrees out.

Jellybean. Like I said somewhere else on here, if you run an A2 (or more than one A2), then you have got to be relaxed about Engine Management lights.

And then there is always the 'excitement' of clearing the fault code and guessing how many days will elapse before the light comes on again...….
