Finally got my Full DIS upgrade working on the 90, looks great! Special thanks as always to Tom @timmus for his advice, and putting up with my pestering! Had a few issues but the procedure is quite straightforward, switch, wiring, coding and immobilizer. Ended up buying no less than 3 rare "Q" instrument clusters whilst not trusting my proceedure! so I now have a couple left over which I will put up for sale if Tom doesn't want them.

You did well. Having visited Tom, I though he had a all of them!

In addition, add some injector cleaner to the next Super Unleaded tank full. Use now and again, even Sainsbury's sell it!.

Fish??:):)
Thanks, have put some injector cleaner in and it is improving but still not much more than 50bhp. As sarge says, a blast up the m11 may shake loose more cobwebs.

Today ....

I have celebrated “Basil “ clocking up just over 4,000 miles since his engine rebuild ...

So got stuck into fitting the false floor , brackets and wheel arch liners , ran out of day light before completing the works , so photos of the completed floor to follow

This is not for those that don’t like nasty snapping noises when removing trim ..

Used a couple of revnuts , Basil was not provided with all the required fixing position from the factory for 2 brackets , plus there are further fixing points hidden behind sound deadening pads

Well pleased with the process and the way the car is now looking

Thank to @Clackers for providing the final bits to complete this element of Basils “journey “

Fitted some eBay mats, that fitted! Spent a short while investigating the boost issue, disconnected MAF, unplugged EGR vacuum etc.
Visually inspected the boost hoses and Intercooler - no visible oil nor trace of leakage.
Still however suffering from boost cut at high spool speed. Im guessing the pipe to the N75 might be at fault - or the wastegate is stuck.
I disconnected the boost pipe to the N75, but there was neither vacuum nor pressure from this pipe ( stuck it on my tongue!) which surprised me slightly as I would have expected something. Also the L shaped plastic fitting to the wastegate was a bit baggy so removed it and stuck a bit of hose in its place.

Does anyone know if this pipe to the N75 valve should have vacuum/pressure at idle?
My Vagcom shuts off soon as it connects and Autocom doesnt have the facility to trigger the valve to test.

Next is jack the car up and remove the tray to check the pipes from underneath,

Jacked the car up, checked the hoses to the turbo, all intact. Pipe to the N75 looked ok but on attempting to remove came off seemingly unattached at the other end. From the top I found the pipe, forced the hose back on and started the car. The hose to the N75 now has a pulsing pressure! On the drive home I held it to 4000 rpm in 3rd and no boost loss. So, for a quick check if you're getting the same symptoms as I was, check for the pulse from the pipe on the valve - it's the one that is in front of you, the other 2 are aimed vertically and you have to remove the valve to access them. Relieved to have found it!!?

Today I put a deposit on another A2. 1.6 FSI this time! Think it needs a good clearout but the 160 mile trip back will hopefully do that. At least its on empty so can fill with V Power and dose with Injector Cleaner.

Yesterday I collected "Spud". Third A2!
Drove back at steady 70-80 and tpday seems better than when collected.
Shame TDI gearchNges are not as smooth as this!

Nice to see that you weren't put off by mileage and instead went for condition.

I've had all sorts of A2s over the years and mileage has had no bearing on the way they drive. In fact, if go as far to say as the higher mileage TDIs have actually driven better.
Quite agree Jeff, my tatty 75 has clocked 180k, 40k done post remap and long fifth. Still goes like a rocket but can't use in London soon so found a good fsi replacement. If anyone needs a scruffy cheap glass roof 1.4tdi let me know. Has a boost gauge from Mk2 Spitfire (dad bought a job lot of them 30 years ago), for those interested boost peaks at 18psi on a shopping run.

Bought a water temp sensor and fitted it by torchlight outside my house :) .
Had intermittent gauge operation, never get to 90 and than drop back to 60 even on a long run.
Did think thermostat but the fault code said temp sender - easier and cheaper !!
Quick run up to the next village had the gauge climb steadily to 90, only dropping slightly when flicking auto on the climate, then sat in the high 80's.
Another of the little niggles sorted. Oh and I found that the Webasto heater works as well, started the car to leave work and heard a new noise - held my hand over the units exhaust to feel it puffing away, so another result!
In the post my aux adaptor turned up along with the wireless bluetooth handsfree. Hopefully the radio to repair the faulty volume and worn buttons will arrive this week and I can fit it all together. Fingers crossed if it works then hands free bluetooth for £28...
