Today I.....

Anyway back on topic. Today I...…..

Swapped over climate control buttons using an A4 unit as 'donor'. Was expecting the 'black' to be slightly different but they are in fact a perfect match. :)
Swapped the Concert radio for a very good eBay unit with no button wear. :)
Fitted unworn electric window switches (thankyou A2Steve) in place of the originals which must have been operated by 'Edward Scissorhands'!!! :)

Fascia / door panel looking a little more 'factory fresh'.

He beat me to it by 10 minutes .
Still never mind, the alternative I got also felt sluggish but after a tankful of BP plus Wynns additive and 320 spirited miles its feeling livelier, especially over 3500 rpm when it now pulls cleanly up to 6000 rpm. Did have engine light come on.... misfire on Cyl 4 but cleared it and has not come back.
Just filled with V Power plus dose of Wynns Gold. Fingers crossed

Well done you! I am starting to suspect it could well be with injectors if someones patient enough and doesn't panic, using a good quality fuel cleaner these misfire counts can possibly be cured like it has for you. If thats the case awesome! It's always good to have the glass is half full mentality! ?

Good job the Derv fraternity faint with shock horror o_O when they find out a fully laden A2 is FSI, leaves some of the best cars to us fsi lovers! ?? Lovvit! ?

I can’t claim to be a true FSI lover as I already have a brace of Tdi’s!

Today I fitted a sport steering wheel to "Spud" my FSI. Now have airbag light on. Tried swapping back but still there.... any ideas on how to get rid?

Merlin3046 - whatever you worked on - it can't have been rustproofing :).
….
Nope, it was ride & handling development. The SD1 Vitesse development was a hoot. We had a development car before the injected engine was finished that had a hot cam and 4 downdraft twin/choke Webers in order to give us representative power. Nightmare to start, but went like the proverbial off a highly polished chromed shovel. Shame my mate blew it up when we were out on a Friday afternoon jolly. I still shed a tear for the memory of WRW699S.
On the rust-proofing front (a bit like saying competent government), stories abound of early car customers slamming a door and all the paint sliding off in a single sheet. It took them a while to work out how to get the paint to stick to the electro-phoretic dipped surface.

There is a procedure changing the wheel over thus preventing the air bag light illuminating, I’ll need to look for the thread as I need to tighten my wheel as it’s become loose!
I would have thought disconnecting battery for a while before disconnecting airbag will stop airbag light coming on when plugged back in, after all it can't detect what is not there when 'brain dead'. Also essential from an explosive point if view!

Sounds like the correct procedure

Two things.

1. What, not blacker black 'new' buttons?? Interesting to know the part number on the white sticker of the donor unit or even better a picture of sticker and refurbed front panel.

2. I have a theory about soft touch button wear for what it's worth. While certainly true all buttons will wear eventually, wear will be accelerated if the normal use is a prod as opposed to a press. I am a presser, I use the soft skin on the opposite finger face to the finger nail, my wife is a prodder who uses the finger tip with the finger nail acting as an efficient chisel. She gave up on the iPad for exactly this reason complaining it would not always respond, it did when I physically bent her finger through near 90 degrees!

As long as the ignition is off (key out)the air bag can be disconnected and reconnected without throwing a fault code or going off

Well disconnected the battery. Left fpr s rew minutes, reconnected and started. Still on.
Black tape bekons!

It needs to be reset using a code reader/vcds. If only I was closer I'd have it done for you in a few minutes.

If that doesn't fix it then either you haven't connected it properly (unlikely) or there's a fault with the airbag itself.

@Jellybean did you use the correct air bag wiring loom? I had to use a different loom when I changed from SE to sports steering wheel. You did disconnect the battery and leave for a good period of time before you disconnected the air bag?

fitted the new fuel flap switch. Which didnt open the flap. I now realise the DIS doesnt show the drivers door open so wont power the door.....
Is there a work around to supply power to the flap switch (is it 12v at the switch or neg switching?) or is it remove the door lock and fix the microswitch?
Never had a small car have so many little issues! I suppose it goes with owners running them on a shoestring and leaving faults due to cost...
