Today I.....

Today it finally stayed dry long enough to give the cars a wash and fit the new plates into the A2OC holders 😁

I suspect the insurance group will make it too expensive once she has passed her test and it'll need to be an Aygo or similar.
The next child is 17 next Jan so I figure teaching the kids to drive is a fitting role for the A2
Great car for teaching the youngsters how to drive.
My daughter appreciated having a proper hand brake and the feedback to the clutch bite point
my son, well let’s just say he’s appreciating how good the sound quality from the stereo is and how frugal the Tdi engine is

Today I checked the oil level on my TDi
It was low so added 500ml
Not bad consumption for 7000 miles
Using Castrol longlife SLX

My son has also had access to my A2 to help him learn to drive. He’s never been a fan of the car, always refusing to be seen in it, but as it’s the only manual car we own, so he’s had to put up with the embarrassment. However after finally mastering the shockingly poor clutch, I think he’s finally warming up to it. He’s currently using a dedicated Learner Driver Insurance company, which is complementary to my own policy, but I can’t see the A2 being an affordable car to insure once he’s past. Out of interest I asked the insurance company for a quote on a 17 year old fully qualified driver, the very nice insurance agent apologised profusely as he broke the news that I’d looking at over £4k….

That’s very good - Mine uses at least that, perhaps a little more. I don’t know as I check it every every couple of weeks.

Yes, my 17yr old son was quoted 2700 for his own insurance on the A2 TDi SE.
Now that he's qualified and considering his own car the choice is quite limited to minimise insurance to the likes of an Aygo, VW Up and Yaris etc..

One small observation on the A2 costs is that there is some sensitivity to the year and spec as the quote varied by 300 depending on which registration I used for the A2...all SE TDi 75...

By contrast my daughter (18yr old) managed to find a quote from Go - Girl < 1500. I am hoping and praying that she never needs to make a claim however as the customer service feedback I have read is not great !

Hello all,

Today I rectified this issue:

By being able to remove the number plate light housings easily and without dismantling the tailgate:

Decided to replace both bulbs as I guess the offside will no doubt follow the nearside and fail in the coming months. New bulbs in with fresh stainless steel screws:

Very happy with this satisfying 5 minutes task (after applying penetrating oil a few times a day over the last week).

Kind regards.

Tom
Thanks for the inspiration @2work .
I finally got around to changing my lights today after months of putting this job off (advisory noted on last MOT).
Thankfully the crusty screw heads stood up to the torque from the screw driver without completely disintegrating !
I must get some replacement screws like yours very soon...

Hi, Almost anything except rubber so they say on the pack.
Repaired the plastic fuel tank heat shield mounts.
Quick Steel
'How To' threads one written by @wilco184 and two written by @Alan_uk as a guide to fix them. Best of luck! :) 👍

The vent was fixed by the upper clips, but the lower clips were undone which had released the seal.

Had a go at refurbishing my headlights as they were very yellow and I think had been attempting previously but not well. Very pleased with the improvement so far. Sanded from 600 to 7000 grit and them polishing compound. They still need a lacquer top coat to finish them off (arriving tomorrow from Amazon)
However the rubber surrounds are really poor with pieces missing and lots of splits/tears. Are they still available to buy replacements or is anybody selling a pair in reasonable condition? The ones on currently are a complete circle and go around the whole headlight (or should do!!) I've attached a picture of the only numbers I can see on the rubber but doesn't seem to be a part number I can Google.

Cheers Dave

Pretty sure the surrounds are no longer available

Hello,

Those light clusters are looking grand.

I run mine without the rubber surround now as they got too perished.

Are you sure laqure is the right thing to do?

I keep mine clean with t-cut & turtle wax or similar.
Once they're spray painted any future refurb will require all the laqure removing which is a lot of prep.
You could trial the T-cut & turtle wax for a while and see how it goes?

This is just my view on clear plastic lights and I can't remember where I read not to laqure them.

I could be totally wrong on this.

All the best!
