    Alternative to A2

BMW i3 is a good suggestion. They are (or will be) sought after classics. From their build quality and carbon frame chassis I suspect that, similar to Audi, that BMW didn't make a profit on them. It is a shame the entry prices are steep.

    How green are electric cars

At 3am wind turbines at sea and onshore are regularly generating at capacity with low demand. Charge your car at night on a green tariff and it is likely to be wind and nuclear with little carbon dioxide cost.

    BMW i3 range extender?

Not yet. Finances are tighter post Covid but I fancy an i3 as a possible long term classic. The issue is range and if Renault can get 240 miles of range out of the Zoe why are BMW struggling? The same of course applies to Honda - Honda e and Mini with approximately 150 miles. Interim solution...

    Rise from the scrappers

I think that's the right decision. It sounds too good to scrap and part of the fun is tinkering with it and getting it right.

    75 TDI running rich?

If the ecu thinks the engine is not up to temperature (faulty thermostat and/or temperature sensor) it will keep the engine running rich. Mine was fixed by a new thermostat and makes sense to do both thermostat and sensor.

    Retrofitting OEM upgrades and Insurance.

"The thing they ummed and awwwed about was the A2OC sticker and number plate holder." Many of the insurers are ridiculous. On a previous car they complained about a replacement stainless steel exhaust, said it should be original. What's the point of an original mild steel exhaust on a 1980s car...

    Hello from sunny Ayrshire!

Welcome. Members on this site are a good source of advice and also used - but perfectly workable - A2 parts. Parts are listed for sale in the Market area and if a member such as @A2Steve or @Clackers and others, are breaking a car you could ask them directly.

    Hello from a new member

Good luck with your car. It looks a keeper. I'm sure you've read that Tdis regularly rack up in excess of 200,000 miles.

My FSI Got a 'new' engine...!

Hi Stefano Keeping A2s on the road over the next decade will probably require rebuilt engines. To give me an idea on possible future costs, how much did you pay for the rebuilt engine?

Got the car of my dreams...

Interesting. I didn't realise that a fairly standard diesel polo was over 300kg heavier than an A2. That's like having 3x Boris Johnsons bolted to your car.

What to look for when buying?

Suggest you check the engine gets up to 90c temperature and stays there. Diesels are reliable but thermostats can fail - which will lead to increased fuel consumption as the ECU thinks the engine hasn't warmed up.

A big thank you and free Christmas prize draw

    I am (temporarily I hope) A2 less :(

New "Road User Hierarchy" in next year's revised Highway Code

From the first summary it sounds reasonable, as a driver, cyclist and pedestrian. When driving I'm conscious that I'm in control of a ton of steel - well aluminium :) pedestrians and cyclists are vulnerable.

    Electric conversion project

That's the issue, there are multiple ways of doing an electric conversion but people who've done it - mostly in Europe - have designed and installed their own systems, often using parts from other electric cars, e.g. Nissan Leaf. Costs can be high - £10,000- £20,000 - particularly if you don't...

    Scotland meet-up - NEW DATES - 25th/26th June 2022

I expect to have an A2 again and hope to be there

Do you want an electric A2?

Good point. As engines reach the end of their lives how will we keep A2s on the road? Is it possible now to buy new replacement 1.4 and 1.6fsi engines? Will it be possible 5-10 years from now?

    1.4 Economy and Heat?

An obvious suggestion. If you have aircon are you running your air conditioning vastly more in Spain than you did in the UK?

Do you want an electric A2?

Still looking for the elusive £5,000 cost to convert a classic A2 to electric - I'm optimistic that it's not so far in the future. BBC website - article on electrifying classic Morris Minors, Land Rovers etc.

Please help - could it be the clutch?

£1000 sounds odd to me. My diesel cost about £270 to replace including the labour. If you're convinced it is the clutch, don't take it to Audi, just use any competent independent garage and ask them for a quote to replace the clutch. Edited - my mistake, my comment is well out of date as your...

    Rescuing 1.4 petrols

@Rusty911 I get what you're saying and it makes sense. The information I'm looking for is along the lines of "I rescued a petrol with a blown engine and bought a used replacement from A2Steve, Clackers etc and had it fitted and it cost me £XX" "I had my petrol engine refurbished at the cost...
