Clunk sound when turning steering wheel

Yes, its definitely not easy the first time you do it. We used the wedge shaped part of a hammer and tapped this into the slot to open up the gap. There is not much room to get the hammer in to tap but we managed to get it opened up enough to get the old one out and the new one in on both...

Excessive Negative Camber - TDI Sport (90HP)

Thanks Guys, My A2 is not lowered and everything is standard. The camber is out equally on both sides by roughly the same amount (see initial post). The camber setting needs to be 35 minutes (+/-20 minutes). Left side is 1 degree 26 minutes. Right is 1 degree 13 minutes, so both are...

Excessive Negative Camber - TDI Sport (90HP)

Hi Steve I checked all the suspension and there is no wear anywhere except for the top mount bearings which I have just replaced. The car was bought from an Audi dealership and has a full HPI check so it is not a Cat C or D and has never been involved in any accident. Every other tracking...

Excessive Negative Camber - TDI Sport (90HP)

My A2 TDI Sport (90HP) has been wearing down the inside edges of the front tyres since I got it 35K miles ago and I am on my 3rd set of fronts (205/40/ZR17s). I took it to the garage this morning to get the tracking checked as they have a very accurate 4W computer set up. They measure it and...

Clunk sound when turning steering wheel

I believe it is either a 21mm or 22mm socket/spanner. I used an off set ring spanner and you will need an allen key to hold the centre shaft to prevent it from moving whilst you undo the nut. Note: that when you remove the strut from the front hub you will need a substantial wedge to open out...

    Overhaul of Front Suspension.

Front Suspension now overhauled I can confirm that I have now completely overhauled the front suspension using the kit above from eBay (Meyle Products and Suflex springs) as Steve B recommended (Thanks Steve B). The quality of the kit is good and about the same as from Audi. In fact the springs...

    Overhaul of Front Suspension.

Thanks Steve, that is about the same price Audi charge just for a set of front springs...

    Overhaul of Front Suspension.

I had thought about buying a complete kit but all the ones I have seen so far are all "lowered" in some way and I am trying to keep the ride height standard.

    Overhaul of Front Suspension.

Its finally time to overhaul the front suspension of my 1.4TDI Sport (90Hp) as the ride is almost rigid at the front, plus the inside edges of front tyres constantly wear down to the canvas. I suspect the front dampers and alignment so I am thinking of Monroe Reflexes but called Audi yesterday...

    Replacing the Thermostat

Thanks everyone for the info. Will change it out once the parts arrive next week.

    Replacing the Thermostat

Noticed for about 6 months that the engine (1.4TDI 90HP) never actually reaches normal running temperature. In fact it takes about 30 miles to get within 20% of normal temp. I suspect the thermostat is stuck open as the fuel consumption has got slightly worse too. Can someone confirm where the...

    Ac compressor dead!

Does anyone have the part number for the Air Conditioning compressor? Either the VAG part number or the Denso part number would be great. I note on eBay they have plenty of pumps for the A4 but I guess that is a different type from what is fitted to the A2?

Changing the pump might be easy but its finding over £800 that is the difficult bit... :(

    Ac compressor dead!

Just found the same thing. The local garage (not Audi) have said it is the compressor that is faulty. The system gases up OK and there is 12 volts on the pump but the pump doesn't switch in. I have been quoted £600 for a non Audi part and over £800 for the VAG pump. Also just found out the...

    Wheels 17" to 15"

Thanks Tom. That makes perfect sense.

    Wheels 17" to 15"

I assume you mean if you downsize to 15 inch wheels you will need to get the appropriate tyre profile to bring back up the rolling radius of the wheel/tyre combination to that of the 17 inch wheels and tyres? I would suspect the mpg improvement (if you notice one) will be very small. Might be...

I was hoping for some advice on the offset - any thoughts or advice?

    Wheels 17" to 15"

    OK I have narrowed the 15" wheel choice down to 2 types for use with 195/55/R15 tyres (winter types most probably) and will use the original 17" wheels and 205/40/ZR17's for the summer. First choice is a 15" x 6.5" - PCD = 5 x 100 - offset = ET38. Second choice is a 15" x 6" - PCD = 5 x 100 -...
