Hello everyone!
I am new here, so I will firstly introduce myself. I am Jaro and since beginning of this year I became proud owner of Audi A2 1.2 Tdi.
In few months of ownership I had quite few struggles with the car. First I had to change the thermostat right after purchased. It turned out to be much more difficult operation than I expected. After I had problems with the gearbox and car left me stranded couple of times on the way.
Replacement of the hydraulic pump fixed the problem and car have driven without bigger problem for a few months.
However since yesterday I have another big problem and I would like to ask you guys for an opinion.
I am based in Netherlands where I can service the car easily since there is many mechanics specialized in this car.
Unfortunately I am on vacation in Slovakia at the moment and as far as I know there is no one familiar with 1.2 tdi around.
Here is the problem:
Yesterday I drove with the car just around 1 - 2 km and I parked. I noticed strange sound from engine bay but it was very cold, so I did not pay much attention to it. Then I started the car shortly after, drove few meters to the crossroad where I stopped and when I push the gas again to enter the road engine stopped. I started again, but car did not react to gas pedal anymore. I just pushed it out of the way (fortunately there was a parking lot right next to the road and car stayed there). After few times I could not start the engine anymore, only after disconnecting the battery.
What I find strange is when I start the car and put gearbox to D, car is trying to move a bit, but it cant ( it goes like 5 cm to to front or so..)
It does not react to gas pedal - RPM does not change at all.
When I put it to reverse car does not move but engine react to gas pedal ( RPMs)
When I change to manual gearshift it does not work either.
Only thing I could check myself on the parking lot was the level of hydraulic oil in the pump. It was quite full, but I added little bit so now its totally full. I do not think I have some leakage in the system since it was almost full, so hydraulic pump is not the problem this time.
Last few months gearbox hesitated few times when I selected Reverse. I had to do it multiple times and gearbox shifted to R.
Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?
Clutch cylinder?
Clutch itself?
gear selector?
I would be grateful for any advice since there is no mechanic that can fix it around. I found one service with a lot or experience with automatic gearboxes, but I do not know if they can fix this and that service is more than 100 km away. If it is something with the clutch some local mechanic might be able to change parts here. It needs to be fixed in two weeks, than I go back to NL.
Thanks in advance for any answers,
Regards, Jaro
