1.4 AUA/BBY engine donor car guideline

I have recently replaced the engine in one of my Audi A2 (1.4 AUA). Since it is hard to come across an AUA engine from an Audi A2 here in Sweden I had to find another donor car that I could take the engine from. I was surprised that I couldn’t find any comprehensive information gathered at one single thread on the web about suitable donor cars. I spent quite some time to figure out what donor cars that could be used and I have therefore decided to make a short guideline. I ended up getting a BBY engine from a Seat Ibiza III with 78.000 km.

I am happy to get feedback on any incorrectness in the guideline or if there is some information that you think is missing.

Please be aware that all information is provided to my best knowledge and I don’t take any liability for incorrectness in this guideline.

The below information is taken from the wikipedia entry for the VW Polo MK4. It would be interesting to know if the BKY and BUD engines can be used in the A2 without too much difficulty.

I haven’t done any real research regarding the BKY engine. But I believe that it should be possible to use early BKY engines. It seems that sometime during model year 2006 a change was made to the engine regarding the EGR system which make the engine not suitable as a donor engine. This is easy to distinguish since this version of the engine do not have any EGR outlet on the cylinder head where it used to be. As with late BBY engines this engine type has a different inlet manifold which differs where the EGR pipe is attached. This is not a problem since you can reuse the inlet manifold from your old engine. But I would recommend to be more cautious when consider using a BKY engine. I might in the future update the guideline regarding the BKY engine when I feel more confident that the early version can be used as donor engine.

After watching a couple of pictures of BUD engines I can see that this engine type does not have the EGR outlet as with late BKY engines and should therefore not be a suitable as donor engine. Might also be other differences..
