15" Pepperpots

Hankook Ventus Primes. A superb little tyre, they were outstanding in the snow and ice we had last month, and aren't to shabby in dry conditions either. :)

6.5 is rather good. Accurate would be excellent, but right now - even if I don't really like the design - that's looking like a great way to dump some 185/55R15 Hydragrips on in the summer. Unless, of course, I get a decent deal on a set of Rota Sub zeros....they're 6kg for 15 x6.5 :)

I recently bought a set of 5 pepperpots on e-bay for 40 quid and the other day I got them fitted with 195 55 15 Kumho KU31 "Ecsta" tyres.
They are a lot lighter than the 17" sport wheel/tyre, give a better ride and run much quieter. They also change the overall look of the A2 - and I think I quite like it :)
Also, having 5 wheels means I now have a proper spare (so I don't have to rely on the bottle of gloop!)

Chubbybrown: I have set all the pressures to 30psi to start with, and at the moment it seems about right (with a light/medium load).

All the best,
Oliver

Pepper pot part number

Does anyone have the part number for these pepper pots?

The part number of my pepperpots is 8L0 601 025E
As long as they come from an earlier style A3 (pre 2004 I think) they should be OK.

All the best,
Oliver

My winter rims (ACE Dino, see attached pic) pick up massive amounts of dirt, snow and ice to the extent of sometimes coming way out of balance. Because of the five spoke design, they are easy to clean though. In some cases I need to stop and remove snow and ice which have stuck to the rims to prevent the car from shaking to bits.

People with pepperpots, what are your experiences
in the field of how much dirt they pick up and how easy they are to clean especially regarding the inside of the rim surface?

I would imagine that the design of the pepperpots might be useful to prevent picking up dirt and snow in the first place, but on the other hand, if I would need to clean the inside of the rims on an open road, that would be an absolute nightmare.

They are very easy to keep clean as the design is so smooth. I drove in bad snow twice last winter and they seemed to deflect most snow and slush. However our 2 days of snow doesn't really compare to the conditions you drive in, so I can't say for certain if the PP wheel design will completely shun snow.
Before I fitted them last year I gave them a health dose of wax and they seemed to stay very clean on the inner surfaces for the whole winter, and the outer faces are so easy to wipe over they never seemed to get that dirty.

This all reminds me that I need to get them back on ASAP. :)

Thank you. I'm now considering pepperpots for the next set of winter tires since they seem fairly easy to get. My ACE Dino rims don't seem to be made for winter use since they have suffered from corrosion pretty badly. Any corrosion on your pepperpots yet?

No none. When i bought them second hand they already had a few scruffs and one or two very tiny areas of alloy corrosion. But this hasn't gotten any worse over the time I used them during our 'salty' months.

I would just like to say,
Mine were re-fitted again last night for thier 2nd winter

I thought Fsds were good with 17's,the 15's are incredible:cool::D
