Hi folks,

Some of you might have followed my ongoing interior noise saga, see:

http://www.a2forum.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1117

Anyway - the replacement car has been to the dealer yet again, but there is still a creaking from the doors. The service manager agreed with me that the problem was still apparent. Anyway the upshot of 6 months of dealer to-ing and fro-ing is that I now have three options - pursue getting it fixed with the dealer again; get another replacement A2; or get a refund.

I am loath to get any other car (as the A2 satisfies all my other requirements perfectly). However, the dealer is concerned that another replacement A2 may still not satisfy my high expectations of interior trim quality - and would prefer for me to get a refund (or an exchange for a different model Audi).

I would appreciate your comments on this - do you think I should give the A2 one last chance, or should I just walk away now?

Mmm, tricky. The trim does seem to squeak more than other Audi models.

Q. If you go for the replacement, and it creaks also, will the same 3-way offer be on the table?

Ahh no - I should have mentioned this. Indeed the dealer has explicitly stated that if the replacement one has similar problems - then I could only pursue fixes through the service department.

I am so fond of the A2 that I think I am willing to take this risk (ever the optimist that I am).

Do the swop and put a time limit on it... my A2 had a noise where the square central dash bit met the main dash whenever I set the climatronic to 22deg in the summer... not 22deg in winter though... and it would rattle. 2 degrees up or down and it is gone... It has been gone for some time now, so leave it for a bit and change the temp inside the car and see if that helps?

I'm not sure about the quote from the dealer re the replacement. So are they saying that a replacement A2 would leave you no other option should things go wrong than letting them repir it?. What if the gearbox fails?. I think consumer law is a little bit stronger than that.

Or have I missed the plot here?.

Mmm , also sounds a bit dodgy. Hey Runboy, you realise you have now overtaken JD as top poster?

Hey runboy,

The dealer has only stipulated that I would not be offered another refund in future if the creaks were still there. Any other vehicle fault would be dealt with in the usual manner.

But these would be creaks in a different car, perhaps from different faults. It's not as if he's transferring them from one car to the next? That sounds out of order TBH.

drn - I'll never discourage anyone from buying an A2 (it's bad for business!) so have you thought about finding yourself a very low mileage ex-demo A2 and taking that as a the replacement? I would insist on a 24 or 48 hour test drive and that way you can fully test to see if any of the faults you have experienced exist before making a committment.

Are you coming to the club social?

So is the dealer saying a noise in the same place on the second car is an inherent design fault so tough?. What a load of sphericals. If the noise is in car 2 then he must attempt to fix it. You could say that of all cars "I have one round the back that does exactly the same as yours so I wont fix it". Weird.

Take your money and run if you can...to the nearest other Audi dealer!.
