A few pics from my latest mod (open sky)

I spent the weekend installing an open sky roof in my car. I had a friend help me with the process since he has done it before on his car.

I need to adjust the roof and trunk lid and the interior assembly before it is 100% finished.

The next mod is the body kit, and sometime later this year my 120 BHP engine project.

Your very brave!

Do you have any more pics with the glass in and how much did it cost for the conversion?

Cheers,
Paul.:)

Wow!

As a serial modder myself, I know just what a job you've taken on there and I salute you, it's not something I would do.

A step by step with photos will be a brilliant addition to the A2OC archives.

Best of luck,

Cheers,

Mike

Back in the olden days i remember fitting glass sunroofs to my cortina and Escorts , but this is way beyond that dont think i could take a jigsaw to my A2 Roof without crying ,did u cut it with a jigsaw or a torch ....
Well done Kitoro thats one hell of a mod and your gonna have to right a fitting guide for that , even better still have you thought of offering a fitting service .....
I See a lot of A2's coming your way for a holiday .....

Hi Kitora
What a great project - I don't think many club members would be brave enough to tackle this but if you have time, could you write some fitting notes to go with your pictures.
You probably already know that there is a modification available for the roof mechanism which would be worth doing while the open sky is in pieces -
see link http://www.a2oc.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=794&d=1176793318

Hi Spike.

What will this mod do ?

I am in awe of this modification. I felt pretty cool to have swapped my dash, but having seen this, I now just feel like a weanie!

Great stuff. Finished pics and a guide please (and will you do mine?) !!

Best wishes ..

Alan

WOW! You are the man! Best of luck with it and I can't wait too see your success!

I suppose you're talking about a 120bhp petrol engine? Care to give us a clue what's in your mind?

After that effort hy not just make it a one off convertible. it would probably cost less to get a hood made than buy the glass from audi.

OMG - credit where credit's due.. I don't think I could stomach cutting the roof off my car!!

I look forward to seeing the finished article - well done

Ian

Well impressed there, not just for what you have done but for having the bottle to do it in the first place, well done

I can only echo the comments of everyone else. You are brave to tackle this. Looking forward to see the final result.

Anyone fancy tackling an A2 Caddy mod?

What a mod,

I had thoughed about doing this mod, but having seen how much actually is involved, and how much of the structure of the car is demolished, i pass on this one, this is one mod to big for me

Credit where credit is due

YOU ARE THE MAN :D

I will post some more pics as I do the last finishing jobs on the project. An no, I'm not up for doing another one for a while.... :)

The engine project is an 1.4 16V from a Polo. It produces 101 BHP standard, and I expect around 120 with a set of cams and a new sports manifold. The engine is an excact match to the original 75 BHP unit, but somehow the managed to pull out another 26 BHP. The engine and cams are already waiting. All I need is the manifold before I can put it in the car and have the ECU remapped on a dyno.

Holy s**t

You're a braver man than me - there is no way you'd catch me doing that, if I really wanted open-sky then it'd be changing the car!

Are the structural parts (i.e. cross members) all genuine for cars with Open-sky or manufacturered and will this cause you issues on Insurance?

All the parts are original parts, and they are assembled in the excact way Audi have intended them to.

No one has ever paid extra insurance because they installed a sunroof in their car, and I donøt intend to being the first...
