A2 Future Classic says Daily Mail!

I agree completely and this doesn't just apply to the A2. Those in their 30's now are probably the last generation of petrol heads/car enthusiats. Those currently becoming of car driving age have far less interest in cars than ever before (read an article somewhere but can't quote it as I can't remember where :) ) The generation below that will all be driving little electric boxes that look the same.

Just embrace and enjoy what we have and whatever you do, don't invest £80k in a Sierra Cosworth as i'm sure that bubble will pop soon.
Sounds very sensible argument. The emotion of normal cars, not super cars, has dwindled and nostalgia will go with it. The climate will drive the electric boom and fuel engines will be a dirty pleasure, like cigars in a restaurant.

It's an interesting discussion that will no doubt be debated for some time but I personally don't care what status it has, I simply love my little A2 and no amount of money is taking it off my hands. We are obviously passionate about these clever and unique cars but they were missed and dismissed by the masses, so whatever happens we will always have A2OC where to us it is and always will be a modern classic.

Classic or not, just enjoy it. I think that in not that many years ICE vehicles will be deemed socially and environmentally unacceptable. Their value, and status, will be low, classic or not. By all means pamper them, but first and foremost for me at least, the most pleasure they give is from driving them.
Not forgetting the camaraderie of one make communities like A2OC.
Mac.

I always hope that at some point, the people in charge will wake up to the fact that a car's environmental impact is over its entire life. Keeping an old car on the road is clearly more eco-friendly than buying a new one. That fact applies to whatever motive power that new car uses.

If that happens (as in any sane world it would), we'll all be running our A2s well into the 2030s and beyond!

Also, I will not be at all worried as to whether my car is socially acceptable. If anybody ever wanted to discuss it, I would explain the ecological science to them.

Maybe we ought to start stockpiling fuel though!

As said the most important part of owning the A2 is the enjoyment we all get from them, driving them, fixing them and showing them off to those who don't know they exist or just love the audi brand and this is one that most don't or ever will own.
If it does ever get the modern classic status then that would be great but for me personally I'm not worried either way as my own A2 will be with me till it no longer runs or can be fixed and I will simply enjoy it until then.

For me the A2 is one of Audi's most Vorsprung durch Technic cars they have ever built and is strong in this design. The design drawings, and final execution, were about as groundbreaking as you could get pushing the envelope way further than anything contemporary of the time. The love, passion and free reign the designers had for it shows clearly. Even today, as has been already said, it could roll of the production line and still look modern. For me that's what good design is when it's as relevant today as it was on the drawing board of the mid nineties which makes it a classic.

I love my A2 and I think it does look good, sadly I'd disagree with it looking modern. Compare it to the audi design now and it looks the exact era it was from. Cars now have become completely different from 15 to 20 years back and the same before that, as much of a design great it is I'm afraid it looks the age it is but I'm happy with that fact as I'm sure most are. Just my opinion.

As standard yes. But with a flash paint job, some modern wheels and some Timmus tech they could easily fool the vast majority of the public.

Mods excluded I would say it looks it's age but I agree it can look more modern with some upgrades?

I believe that our a2 will be demanded in the near future to transform into electric cars.
i agree having seen a polo at a car show a few years ago, this guy was an electrical engineer and did it himself,
after talking to him i decided he was very clever indeed and i felt thick !
i wish id took pics
many other cars will be converted too as time goes by and the market demands it

Regarding the look of the A2.

I was paying for fuel last year and the lad at the counter said 'Is that one of those new hybrids?'

I'm biased obviously but I think it looks very different to the cars of its era and the present era. It also produces (like all revolutionary cars) a love it or hate it reaction in people. I have friends who cannot fathom how I could drive something so ugly! I liked the look of the A2 the minute I saw one and wanted one as soon as they got cheap enough.

I do think it's subjective. When I first saw one back when they were new I didn't like it, I was in my early twenties and it just didn't appeal, now I absolutely love them. Amazing how time can change what we see and what we like.
