A2 Owners Club Social !

Just a brief update...

I have found a very nice country pub a few miles north of Folkestone that has a decent sized car park. I have been discussing with the managers the possibility of them providing a buffet lunch for us obviously with a mixture of veggie and meat based dishes. The pub owners seem very excited at the prospect of us having our first social there and they seem like a nice bunch of people.

If we go ahead with this plan, there will therefore be a charge per head to come to the event of probably around £4.00 or the equivalent in your country. I am thinking of setting up a paypal system online to take payments to come to the event. In addition, I will also take prepayments for club mugs if anyone wants one or two which I will have made and bring to the social.

There are several small hotels/b&bs around the area for anyone who wants to stay overnight to use. I will send out details of these to all club members via email when everything has been confirmed.

What does everyone think? Are you willing to pay a little in advance for lunch and confirm your attendance?

Stuart.

If i'm coming (which depends on the date) I don't have a problem with the pay. Eating together must be one of the requirements.

A hotel would also be very nice (hate to sleep in the back of the A2).

I'm still up for it, date depending of course!. Money thing sounds fine-do you accept Tesco Clubcard vouchers?

Stuart,

Come the end of this week I will have a bit of time to play around, so I thought perhaps I could take half a dozen photographs of the pub and surrounding area of Folkstone which perhaps you could post on the A2OC site in order to give a flavour as to the location. This could be especially useful to those who reside north of Watford, and have never ever seen the sea.

I’m sure that as time progresses it might be possible to formulate a little programme whereby some owners could meet up along the route. Tesco’s have branches from Inverness all the way down to Folkstone. Who knows perhaps those travelling from middle England could meet outside the Mushy Pea factory. Perhaps us southerners could slum it by starting off with cocktails in Leeds Castle.

I think it would be ok to pay a little in advance... But for us continent folks it would be nice not to have to sleep in our cars, as Dennis said (not that the A2 is too uncomfotable to sleep in....:)

Bye, Frido.

Stuart,

I'm thinking about joining the social too. Not shure yet, depends on the date among other things.
Paying in advance won't be a problem.

The idea of the meeting is great, anyway.

This is a great idea and should be good fun too!

I would like to propose some competitions:

A mooing competition - as long as there are no bulls nearby (plenty of bulls****ers but not the bovine type) :D

A low fuel consumption competition - between the meet and the pub [^]

A high fuel consumption competition on leaving the pub [)]

A "hardest suspension" competion :(

A longest dipstick competion - size matters! [:I]

A worst driveshaft competition [V]

A highest outside temperature reading [8D]

A highest or strongest windscreen washer squirt (does the dipstick length have anything to do with this - statisticians at the ready! [}:)]

The most creative use of smileys.... [?]

Any other ideas?

Stuart,

Still sounds no probs for me. Did you decide approx timing yet? Since my wife plans my life, I have to get this type of thing on the calender well in advance. [8D]

By my reckoning, pending confirmation on the date, from this forum there are currently only 9 A2's coming so far. (12 cars in total)

A2's:
Stuart_D (Stuart)
BK
deHeld (Dennis)
frido
runboy (Steve)
paulj
Kaine
JanF
Paul

Non A2's:
John Disdale (Golf)
Royfox (Roy) (Golf)
Gav (Punto)

Stuart : What are the current numbers like from your site? More than this I hope.

We need to increase this number dont you think?

Steve - do you still have moderator status? Can you make this thread a 'sticky topic', i.e. so it stays at the top of the list?

Kaine

Count us in as well[8D]

At this rate, this thread will be the highest posting topic of all time. :D

I'm glad everyone is so enthusiastic, I'm really looking forward to it now!

I won't forget those who will be travelling from afar and will tell everyone about hotels that are in the nearby area.

I have more or less decided on the location but would like to take a trip down there one weekend before I make a committment. I'm still not sure about dates. Given the way things are progressing it could be possible to do it this year or would everyone prefer to wait until the Spring next year?

Talking of competitions, I have recently been offered a new stainless steel exhaust fitted and supplied. The system itself comes with a life time warranty and still turns down at the rear of the car to remain original in design. It is of high flow capacity and even on its own offers +6bhp and noticeable low speed and mid range torque. The company doing the offering is http://www.auto-amd.com

Is anyone interested in this? If there are enough people, this could be a site competition or even raffle prize if enough people come to the social.

On numbers, I'd really like to get it up to 20 A2's so that we make a really big impact on a convoy drive. Don't forget there are actually 160 members of the club and not everyone is a forum member so several more people may come out of the woodwork once I send an email around.

Don’t forget there are other dedicated Tesco enthusiasts – including JonM, Chivers, Maersk, Chris, and of course ZB who perhaps could justify the trip as a second honeymoon.

Things are looking good-I like the competition idea-was the hard suspension aimed at me?:)

I think also the number of Tesco clubcard points could be a good competition idea.

I tried making this a 'sticky' topic, but there is no option to. I tried to email David (admin) but his profile doesn't allow emails to be sent to him, so....

Either we move this topic onto A2 Facts which is little used, or if David is reading this, can he either make this sticky, or set up a new discussion forum just for the social.

Stuart_D, I don't know why, but this year sounds good-how's the weather in Europe around November time?!?.

Count me in as well.

As I'm not due to get hold of my baby until Oct/nov, I'd personally prefer it if this took place in the spring.
May also decrease the chance of turning up to the event with an A2 covered in salt etc, after traveling down the A12 .

Paying in advance is also totally reasonable.

Expecting Silver A2 1.6FSI sport, end October.

For the sake of making life easier, can I just ask that if there is anyone interested in coming to the social that has not joined the club yet, please join now as it will mean that I can send everyone emails with location details etc rather than post it on the forum where not everyone may see it - plus with the risk of starting another mega sized topic!

Runboy - is the capacity of 'A2 Facts' bigger? If so, I say move this thread as it could be a popular topic for a few months.

Also, do you think it would be possible to have a folder dedicated to club discussions or are there too many space constraints?

Stuart great idea, I would like to come so much, but I'm affraid that it is rather an adventure for me. Unfortunately it is not likely that I might show up.

Regards

Anton,
It's a shame, but I understand.
I wish I could say that there will be an A2OC social in Slovenia, but you are the only member from there!
