A2 Spare wheel

space saver wheel

i bought an unused wheel from a golf in a scrapyard
fits perfectly bearing in mind that it is for emergency only
it proved its worth last week when i collected a nail
cost me £30

Hey les did you get lucky!!, I am needing a spacesaver spare badly but wouldnt have a clue about different sizes so have to wait until I can find a reasonably priced one from an A2 so that I dont get it wrong.

Hi ScotAlan
I just checked the centre position of a standard A2 15" alloy relative to the threaded mounting hole in the boot floor. The centres don't quite line up so the standard spacesaver mounting centre bolt won't work. Your idea of picking up on one of the wheel bolt holes seems to be a good solution. The mounting bolt length however needs to be exact as there is not much thread depth in the mounting bracket under the boot floor.
Dimensions to the centre of the mounting hole are 285mm from the left (passenger) side and 305mm from the rear of the boot sides.

Cheers Spike

Hi Spike,

That is great!... I will mark it out and have a look later.

I have had a thought about the consequences of screwing something too long into the bracket, and I might just get the kit and do the mod to move the "nut"before the wife ever sees it! I thought briefly of fitting a stud into the bracket to drop the wheel onto, but if I do that the floor won't lift..........

Thanks again!

ScotAlan
