yeah, they should help quite a bit. Especially the specifics about where to put the parts when they go back in, that's really quite important.

I was quite lucky and picked one up on Ebay for cheap 60 quid and got those nice guys at wom to fit as it's pretty fiddly. I'll try and find the part number later if no one else can provide
No way... really? Thanks Ross. There aren't too many Ross Cannings around however I managed to go to school with one in West of Ireland.

So that's a substitute only for the new part, not the old one before 2004 ?
Ross Canning is correct- the manufacturer part number (in this case a 'Hella Premium line' replacement part) is for the MY2004 onwards. I have a had a quick look and cannot find the Hella or BEHR equivalent part number for the 2000 to 2003 model years. I will do some more research tomorrow and if I come up with something I will let you know.
The earlier design was only used on the A2 and Polo / Fabia / Ibiza models at that time where as the revised design continued to be used in the A1 as well as the other VAG small cars until very recently so there will be lots of cars out there with this part so high demand. I can understand therefore that there are alternatives available for the more recent and wildly used part. It may not be possible to get an alternative for the earlier one. As my 2004 model uses the earlier part, I bought a spare from eBay recently for when it breaks....
I've had this fault for a few years now. Partly frightened to let anyone mess with it that wasn't fully familiar and not willing to have a go myself.
This spring /early summer after much massaging of the + and - controls of both temperature and fan settings the car seemed to start cooling a little. Its been 5 years since I had the climate serviced and the refrigerant recharged. I subsequently checked the system for faults with my basic scanner and Torque app (thanks Sarge) and to my surprise the App registered no faults. Nothing.
So today I had the climate control serviced and re- gassed and to my delight I have icy cold air conditioning for the first time in years. Very handy for the 5 days per year hot sunshine we enjoy in Alba ???????.
I've no doubt the fault may emerge again. For now I'm a happy chappy.??
