Thanks BRET looked at footwell on passenger side aswell as driver-side every think seem to be ok on that front the driver-side only had a silver box with a wire to it. I dont know think it might be one of my coils just about to go and it just shut down all of my 4-cylinder what do you think

John

John let's recap, your engine went dead, Rac came and reset it (I assume thats reset the DTC's) it started up and ran ok then died again several weeks later.

Do you recall anything the RAC man said at all?
Does the engine turn over by turning the key? if so would you say it turns over at the normal speed the engine turns over? or slower?

Did the RAC man do anything else you noticed? like say connected a battery booster or something?

Does the little yellow light with the car on the clocks go out after 3 seconds after turning your key to ignition?

Does the engine 'try' to fire up at all?

If it 'tries' to start and then stops with the yellow light with the car on the clocks flashing or staying on, have you tried your spare key?

What is the warning lights your getting on the clocks? Sorry about throwing questions at you but we need to try to narrow fault down, as its too vauge and can be anything at moment.

Cheers

he just said '4 cylinders stopped working' on your car, just turn the key and started again that's the only thing he done apart form putting the computer and reset engine management, was ok 3 weeks then it happend again and it loss all power and came to a stop i just turn the key and it started full power but the light did not go out untill about 2 days no light any more but will happen again i think a bit worried as got to go to work on a busy road as most of us do i have not got the code for the error (dam)

Loss of power, but runs, usually points to 'Limp mode' to get you home.

I would start with checking all connections wether its electrical or just vacuum hoses etc, then definatley get scan done (anyone hear you on the forum with Vag Com?) and that should narrow it down.

Hi John
As you now know without fault codes to work on we are all struggling to come up with a logical answer. One of the things not already covered is a faulty crankshaft speed sensor. This is probably the only sensor which stops the engine if it fails - the others can cause poor running and loss of power but won't shut it down. Often a crank speed sensor on the way out will fail when it gets hot but recover as it cools down.

Cheers Spike
