You say in your mails that you are 'non technical' so think carefully before spending over £250 on VagCom. It does require some mechanical aptitude to work through the manuals and use the kit for diagnostics and coding.
Apart from 'customising' the central locking system I dont think there are any other features you can change. The tool is really for reading / clearing fault codes, resetting the service indicator and configuring replacement components. eg - a new climate control panel would need programming with VagCom before it would work correctly.
