Anyone here own a Mk2 Golf gti?

Classic, like the wheels, have you got 15" bba originals?
Thank you
The car came with some retro tsw alloys on it and a fifth spare complete with locking centre caps and original tsw tool.
Which i sold as IMO they didn't suit the car they made it look like a track car not the look i am going for. Sold the wheels for almost the value i paid for the car!!
When looking for original wheels It was a split decision between the bbs ra's and the estorils(on car) that were fitted to the run out fire and ice mk2 golf gti's.
These became available first at a very good price, as they needed a refurb so these won.

They look good, not many alloys suit the golf mk2!

Looking for the classic oem look. These wheels were also fitted to the 16v corrado. I also considered the 15" sebrings but at the time, all available sets were very expensive

Getting there slowly.

Info really , but if you struggling for wings doors, the mk2 was built for a long time in SA , and I think Brazil, ( taxis believe it or not) . Many new panels , parts still available . Or really good pattern ones .

Thanks for the info. Not struggling for any parts only struggling for time. A change of job and never ending supply of things to do, take priority over my project.

I also own a 90 spec Mk2! Mine is a 16 valve, 3 door in Helios Blue. I haven't read through this whole thread, but it sounds like we might be in similar "not enough time for projects" boats. Funnily enough, mine has also not been used since 2008.

Yours does look hellish tidy though - unfortunately I am in respray territory

Helios blue is a lovely rare colour, I had oak Green j reg, should have kept it, despite being 8v, got a 16v jetta on a h plate after, should have kept that too as that's real rocking horse poo covered in unicorn dust!!

I have a lot of love for Mk2 Jettas. Very nearly bought one for £800 a few years back. Would have been a wise investment I think, she was a 2 door 8 valve in need of cosmetic attention.

A 2 door jetta? Must have been a mk1 then? Or did they door a low spec mk2 2 door? I preferred the drive of the jetta and the unique look, everyone either hated it or ignored it, but it was therefore cooler than a golf :)

A quick image search for "mk2 jetta coupe" will reveal all. They are more handsome than a Golf in my opinion, maybe due to the rarity. Depending on who you ask (perhaps including you by the sounds of it!) they do handle a bit better.

A while ago, I convoyed to the Total Retro show with a mint Jetta - looked completely stock until you peered through the grille up close and spied a huge intercooler.

Hi all.
Haven't updated in a while. Car is almost complete and not too far away from a pre mot check. Also need to fit the Thatcham cobra immobiliser I bought. Have a few minor problems to sort yep and garage lol.
Distributor has seized need to free up before car is tuned (tick over lumpy). Exhaust needs better joint clamps, a run through of every bolt under car re torque ing to factory spec, A good bleed of brakes (they are firm but could be better), Car needs tracking aligned.
My to do list is a lot smaller.

Basic BBS and P Slots only in my opinion depending on year of first regestration. There is a period upto 1990, after P slots and before BBS when only steel will do in my opinion.
Edit, unless you have a 16v which look good on factory alloys.

Not available in UK but there was 2 door Jetta. A very good looking car.

Experienced the better handling of three box vs hatch back with Rover 416 vs 216. The additional box on the back vs a load hatch made the rear much stiffer. 416 handled much better than 216.
Perhaps the same is true with Jetta vs Golf?

Get it done and back on the road, I had a helios blue MK1 golf gti campaign many years ago. IMO The BEST VW colour ever.
Good luck

Thank you. How's yours looking now?
Before I answer this question I confess; I'm experiencing serious garage envy.

One complete very shiny Golf GTi, except for the tailgate that requires a coat of paint and reassembly, lights, lock etc. When I get the A2 bits out of the way I'll put its cover on.

LOL maybe my garage doesn't need sorting? Nice work can't wait to see the finished pictures.
