Bespoke A2 Footrest Group Order

Afternoon everyone,

I have just updated the list in post #333 to show what has been sent and whats waiting for Pauls infills to arrive.

You should all have received a PM (apart from @Birchall as for some reason I didn't somehow take a picture) from me showing a picture of your parcel at my local Hermes shop with the postage label on it. This also includes your tracking number. Your parcel started its journey to you yesterday.

Those of you in the above list (post #233) who are highlighted in green will ba waiting for me to receive your infills before dispatch. I think there might be a couple of parcels sent which I understand that required infills before dispatch. This has occurred as I only held off posting the parcels that were listed as green on Pauls list (post #20) on the infill thread.

Those of you on Pauls list, at the bottom in yellow (@thejohn and @dogbower) who had not paid will already have your parcels in transit. Your infills will be with me in a few days and am not sure how to proceed. Will posting this few infills be at my own expense or should I ask you for the postage cost that Paul states as £1.00. I apologise for this mishap, I guess this was inevitable with 2 member selling 2 different things on 2 separate threads with 1 member collating items for 1 parcel. I think this only involves 2 members (@thejohn and @dogbower) and it could have been a lot worse.

Kind regards,

Tom

I bet industry cannot react so quickly. I sure know that bae systems can’t. That would have been an 18 month lead time for bae
At least 30 meeting would have taken place plus 15 redesigns and 20 prototypes

Roll on the next idea

Hi Paul

Not too far off actually :) I'm actually in the industry (30 veteran with several companies across Europe) Things have got better in recent times, particularly with CNC machining and rapid prototyping, but like the aircraft industry our big hold-ups are quality compliance and certification & homologation. The best I have seen was nine months from requirement to fitting production parts on the line.
So a big thankyou from me for a great job, I'm really looking forward to fitting :)

Best wishes
Mike

Morning all,

The Hermes App indicates that some of you (@johnyfartbox, @Special edition, @Redant, @DolphinGreyA2, @jimonskye, @Oett83, @Pinkythelabrat, @Veedub68, @tipomark, @Sootywg, @thejohn, @QuatroA2, @ecurb, @Jellybean, @Chand, @Alan_uk) are receiving your Footrest parcel today which is great news that Hermes have honoured the 3 day delivery. Im sure the rest of the parcels will be with you very soon. The App also informed me that the following members have already received the footrest: @TheLardMeister, @Mbzpar, @jaffa_jim, @beady73, @DolphinGreyA2 I truly hope you like the contents of your parcels.

Once I have confirmation that your parcel has been delivered via the App, usually with a picture of it at your front door, I will send you another PM stating that it has been delivered along with the picture attached. Over the next few days I will also display an updated list showing who has received their parcels, you row will be highlighted in red to show the proceedings are complete for this transaction.

I did send one as Next Day delivery to someone as they had recently helped me out and it was my little way of saying thank you, this parcel is still in transit though, why offer a service which cannot be honoured.

Whilst on the Hermes App I could see that the Infill parcel from Paul @depronman is due to arrive today. The remaining footrests, with infills will be taken to the Hermes shop this evening and will start their journey tomorrow.

Don't forget to add picture please.

Kind regards,

Tom

How about a custom designed bracket for a widely available Audi centre arm rest!!

Geoff,

You read my mind sir.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I will be sending the CAD files for the A1 Armrest bracket to Cut-Tec to get a price, files not sent yet but it will happen.

This might well be another team event as I think Paul @depronman will need to adjust the top of the bracket file to allow fitting of the A6 C5 armrest that Graham @audifan has fitted. The A6 arrest looks good and will be available at a much lower cost than the A1 item. Due to the age of the A6 C5, most of us will probably find a mouldy one for pennies in a breakers yard. A bit of @A2Steve 's favourite cleaning agent, Elbow Grease, and it will look as good as new.

Give me a couple of weeks as work commitments do take precedence here but this is what I think my new venture will be.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom. You are too easily led!
The work you have done on the foot rest is exemplary and I am sure this venture would be equally successful. I thought the A6 one looked good for the job and would be the right era for the A2 but don’t let us twist your arm over doing this. Paul’s expertise would also be needed for trim panels to cover the brackets.

Footrest plate arrived this morning. Put it in place for a pic
looking good. Thanks again Tom

Geoff,

That looks great sir,

In under a month we have gone from being let down by this:

To initiating the idea and approaching a company with this:

Followed by Paul @depronman getting involved like this:

All the way through manufacture and delivery to what you show in your footwell:

Utterly amazing what can be achieved.

I’m glad you’re happy with your purchase.

Kind regards,

Tom

Mine arrived this morning, excellent work by all involved. Thing is, I have one spare now.

Decided to screw mine on, I'll get a better screw in the near future.

Afternoon John,

Im very glad you like what you have received.

You having one spare, is this from an over order, selling an A2 or did I send 1 too many, quite sure I didn’t but these things happen.

I have you down for 3 without tape and know that’s what you paid for.

You could always just purchase another A2 to put it in.

Kind regards,

Tom

Mine has just arrived. Many thanks to Tom & Paul for all their work. Tom has pulled out all the stops with lots of confirm emails and photos of the item ready to dispatch and more to come! Must say that the final product is more sturdy than I was expecting. A solid bit of engineering :)

I am a bit confused that mine look different to others above! As expected the tape is already fixed. I was expecting it to be just at the sides. As you can see on mine below, I can see the tape.

That means the exposed tape in the slots is going to attract the dust and the A2 logo is half black and half see through. I will order the inserts from Paul unless someone tells me I got it all wrong!
PS Can I still use the inserts without removing the tape - I recall they go in from the front.

I'd say that it's inevitable that you'll see exposed tape. What I'd do would be to use a scalpel or Stanley knife to carefully cut through those exposed sections of tape. So looking at the rear of the rest there is full coverage of tape except where the slots are .... Maybe pre-painting the existing footrest in black, prior to fitting the new rest, might help it to look better?

Alan,

Yes leave the tape on and push the infills in from the top.

If you choose not to have the infills just get a scalpel to trim the tape away. I did mention this earlier in the thread that it would be something that everyone would need to do. I just don’t have the time to trim the tape 113 footrests with 12 slots in each.

Go for the infills, they look great, I’ve got 35 sets here in Coalville! Well done Paul @depronman.

Kind regards,

Tom

Key:
Red = Collected / Delivered, I have proof of delivery via the Hermes app.
Yellow = @ecurb is required to pay an additional £1.30 due to the weight of 5 footrests. Multiple PMs sent.

This list will be very last one (promise) and I will keep it up to date when I am notified that parcels have been delivered.

I truly hope that you like what is contained in your parcels!

Kind regards,

Tom
