Bluetooth audio streaming to Chorus II

I eventually got round to installing the adaptor this afternoon, after a prolonged struggle with VCDS. I’m not sure exactly what had happened but to cut a long story short I found I couldn’t connect my laptop to the OBD port any more, it seems that maybe some windows updates had reallocated the port I was using to something else. After a lot of trial and error and generous help from @PlasticMac i eventually got it working again and found the reprogramming the radio to recognise the CD changer to be very simple, and possible with my unlicensed version of VCDS Lite. Fitting the adapter wasn’t too hard, though getting the radio out was a bit of a struggle, the wiring loom had got tangled round something. The audio quality seems good however I made a major oversight… the listing for this said it didn’t support telephony however since I was using it via the carplay console I thought this wouldn’t matter. How wrong I was.
So I’m returning it (easy and free using Amazon fortunately) and found on the bluemusic website the slightly enhanced version that supports BT calling, only a few £ more. Hopefully it should be a simple swap.

Here’s what I’ve ordered. It was out of stock on Amazon unfortunately. I’ll update the post when I find out how well it works.

I have one of these thanks to @mtl and YouTube. Its brilliant. I have a mic run up the A-pillar to the overhead console behind the headliner (invisible) and there are no problems at all. I ordered direct from Germany.

I just installed mine and happy to say that it works for audio and calls. However so far I haven’t found an easy way to route the mic cable from behind the head unit. I hoped I might be able to run it off to the right and out under the steering column however i fed a stiff wire through and couldn’t find any way… should this work? If not is there an easier way?

@Malcyb

If you drop the drivers storage panel ( the trim under the steering wheel that has the OBDII port ) you can easily route from behind the head unit, around the steering column, out the lower right corner of the dash, up behind the window rubber and out to where you want the mic.

Thanks. Is it obvious what I need to do to lower that panel. I'm away from the car ATM...

Yes quite straight forward. There are either 2 or 3 torx screws underneath and the forward edge is held in the dash by spring clips that are gently released as you pull on the storage compartment. As you lower it unclip the OBDII socket and disconnect the service flap handle.

One of the torx screws is hidden by the guide trim for your right foot. The trim does not have to be removed only pushed towards the outside of the car to access the screw.

TIP either use a good magnetic bit or place some grease ( I use vaseline ) on the bit to prevent the screw dropping behind the panel.

I wouldn't say its easier... I have an extension for the lead, and then its routed below the binnacle which was removed to do this, into the headliner via a removed A-pillar trim upto the header (once the leadliner was removed too).
