Cambelt tools needed?

Is this the same for the aua engine as I have to do the camblet etc. on Albus.

Yes, just click on product details on the Sealey website and it tells you the engines to which the tools are applicable.

Thanks, although I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the prices. think I'll be looking for alternative brands.

Probably a bit cheap 'n' nasty, but there are several 'all-in-one' sets on ebay like this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36PC-PROF...334689?hash=item4b057890e1:g:D~gAAOSwTglYkIil

that look as though they have all the bits needed to do cambelt changes for both petrol and diesel engines. I'm squinting at the piccies trying to work out if it's all there. If that's so, it would be handy for me, as I've got a change for both types coming up....

Me; the timing belt and chain drive in the sump. Starting next week.

I looked at doing this myself and quickly realised on youtube that it was quite a bit more involved than the other cam belts i've done on other cars during my lifetime.Rabs how to was superb but paid for just 2 hours labour by a good pro it was only £250 all for a full Dayco belt kit plus water pump. Good luck with the job. :)

That looks like a good price, you are lucky to know a good pro who is quick with a reasonable hourly rate.

Once my belt comes off the job is just beginning for me. The sump has to come off and I have a chain, sprockets and chain guide to replace, Parts alone are costing about £220.00 and tools have cost me just short of £100.00 but the more expensive ones have an application on my Golf. Happy with what I'm getting for £320.

All I need now is some of that good luck you wished me, thank you.

And some good weather to go with it or a nice large heated garage :)

Unfortunately, I have a garage that is full, and a driveway that doesn't have much width to it (and it definitely is not warm at the moment).

I bought this set, it is actually very good quality. If anyone wants to borrow anything from it then drop me a PM and I’ll post from work (no cost).

@Kleynie - that's good to know. Does it look as though it's got all of the tools needed for the 1.4TDi cambelt change? I've been looking through the list posted by @philward and comparing it to the auction listing. I'm not entirely convinced it's all there. Hard to tell though.

Did it have all the tools that you need Kleynie to do the cambelt change on the 1.4? Mine is an AUA engine.

Sorry, I have no idea as ours is petrol.

To be honest you only need the two pronged tool to hold the two cam pulleys in place, the crank pulley has a mark on it to line up once the tool has locked the two cam pulleys. I can send you it if required?

I listed the tools needed for a timing chain change which requires timing belt removal. Therefore my list includes tools for both jobs.

Looking at kit posted by TFG http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36PC-PROF...334689?hash=item4b057890e1:g:D~gAAOSwTglYkIil it appears quite comprehensive. Bearing in mind I haven't done this job yet the manual suggests that there are two methods for setting a TDi belt tension at the cam sprocket, one for hydraulic damped and one for friction damped belts.

My car has friction damping, well at least I think it has going on the VIN, so I bought a sprocket wrench T10172 that is not in the above kit. I've got two two pronged tools for setting the belt tension. One for the cam pulley and one for the tensioner.

Are you sure? The 1.2Tdi requires just a pronged tool for the tensioner. The cam belt pulley is just loosened (once the camshaft is locked) and rotated clockwise to the stop and left that way while the belt is tensioned. I would have thought that the 1.4Tdi is the same. If the pulley is not free to move during tensioning, you will only tension about 1/2 of the belt.

I believe so RAB, the procedure for a 1.4 with hydraulic damping is exactly the same as as you describe for a 1.2. My car has mechanical damping and the tool is used to create some pressure between the belt and the drive side of the pulley (so the manual says).

I will report how I get on, could probably do that part of the job with two drill bits and a ring spanner. However I need the same tool to hold the cam while I remove the pulley nut on my Golf. Can't do that with drill bits and a ring spanner.
