Check your front suspension arms people

Autodoc are the same company as Autopartspro. I got mine from Mr. Auto, purely because the discount they were offering was good at the time

Although the earlier conclusions seemed to be that there was no difference in the suitability of the arms for petrol or diesel the manual does show some differences in the bush dimensions for the different models which is interesting;

Can only think this must be something to do with the difference in engine weight?

Simon.
Agreed I spotted that. My arms are clearly marked TDi

Err.... can't remember. I bought them on a Black Friday discount day last year. I'll dig out the receipt. I found availability can be a problem. If you're in a hurry to get the goods, don't buy from Mr. Auto / Autodoc / Autopartspro.

The current 5% discount code for new customers at autopartspro is: AABB5

Beware on final screen they add on £3.45 for Safe Purchase. With this you can send back the items (unused) at no charge. You have to scroll down to untick it if you don't want it, but it's a small cost for piece of mind. Just a bit naughty in my books for making it an opt out and down the bottom of the screen.

Just checked and mine are cast and look pretty okay. Whew! Enough rust on the VW camper so I'm grateful not to have a problem here.

Is anyone considering some Anti-Knox and Hammerite while on the car to slow future issues? Or Waxoyl for those with pressed? The powder coat looks great but removal looks like a pain.

As Phil noted in post #101, carparts4less has the Lemforder/TRW JTC1140 / 615440706 and JTC1141 / 615440716 left right pair for £195 delivered at the moment (back order though mine arrived 3 days after order).

Yes defiantly naughty and worth giving them a wide berth just for that reason.

Sounds excellent and thanks for putting putting up the pics. Nice detective work by all and this is prompting me to buy a pair myself.

The Autodoc Safe Purchase charge is not at all bad value if you are placing an order for lots of stuff. It allows you to return any/all of the items for either exchange or full refund, without reason, for up to 200 days from the date of purchase and they will cover the cost of return carriage to Germany.

As for the carparts4less site, how do you find out the manufacturers part number for the item you're buying?

If anyone is interested, these photos show one of the arms I removed from my 2001 TDi last weekend alongside one of the new Lemforder replacements. As you can see, the originals are Lemforder and look identical to the replacement. It seems a bit petty to make the OEM supplier grind the Audi references off, but there you have it.

As far as I can tell from looking through the full documentation that came with the car, the removed ones are the originals, so they've not done badly. :)

You always see this and it always makes me happy, once the numbers been ground off you know you bought exactly what Audi would have sold you for a fraction of the price! Seen it on engine mounts I recently bought for my cabrio and on the brake calipers I bought for my A2 that were refurbed...

And those old arms look solid still, goes to show the difference in longevity between cast and pressed. Id trust your old arms more than the pressed one i removed!

Not unique to cars. Until a few years ago Nurofen was made by Boots (the original inventor). It was made in the same unit on the same machine using the same ingredients as the Boots ‘own brand’. Price was quite different though.
Also hilarious when customers complained the Boots one ‘didn’t work’ only the Nurofen one did! Smile and nod.

Crookes healthcare - owned by Boots plc. Also made optrex and strepsils. Sold to Reckitt-Benckiser a few years back. A shame because my anecdote is no longer true.
