Disconnect cowl panel grille / fresh air duct without removing wiper and washer jets. it’s vital to remove fresh air duct to get access to back side

Ball end long 5mm Allen key socket makes life so much easier!

I have refitted a few egrs without replacing and gaskets or seals and had no issues

Massive thanks to @Howey and @audifan for their tips getting that off. It wasn't easy and I had to put some gentle pressure on the exhaust inlet #3 to get bolt #9 free enough to drop out, but the ball end 5mm Hex worked well!

6mm Hex for the exhaust inlet bolts #12 and as Audifan says, gaskets needed.

Nice to know its clean! Next stop is the inlet manifold

Hi, did you use any cleaning products? I just have an engine light on so I assume I have the same problem.

Did anyone else find getting bolt 9 out a nightmare with the head of bolt 12 in the way?

Even with 12 out, the flange of 13 seems to be a wind up. Do you need to remove 13 altogether or the whole engine first until its an aluminium noodle with an EGR floating under the bonnet?

I am struggling to undo lower bolt 9.
I have undone bolts 12 but the exhaust pipe 13 is preventing me from undoing lower bolt 12.

Normally once unbolted from the top the pipe can be persuaded to come loose from its gasket and pushed out of the way to allow access to the remaining EGR bolt.

Reread this thread and select the appropriate tool either long ball end or short or even hex bit.

AMF EGR removal? I’ve never had any problems but there is a lifting eye on the back of the cylinder head; or rather there was in my case. Remove it; I suspect it not being there is the reason I have better tool access and no problems.

Indeed, that blooming thing! Right in the way makes it very hard.
