re. "What's the leverage ratio of the front suspension?" What does that mean?

The 20-30mm off the front bump stops is based on Schnelltrecker's recommendations posted on this site in an earlier thread.

Awesome Al
Car sits fine with the 30/00 combo. Slightly more aggressive than the original 00/00 setup. Certainly looks way better than the arse end heavy look of a 30/30 combo.

Do you have a "side profile" picture of your car that I could have a look at? :)
I'm trying to learn a bit more about the A2.

That mean that to achieve a 30mm lowering of the WHEEL, the spring on the McPherson suspension arm has to be XXmm shorter. And the ratio beween 30 and XX is what I called the "leverage ratio" (I don't know the right word in English)

I'm the same as Alanm, wished you'ed posted this earlier already got my FSD's now just getting ready to fit them. And as for being cheeky, you don't get anywhere these days without a bit of cheek

Cheers Phil

If you get these fitted is it advisable to change the front and rear bump stops and the strut top bearings

John

I would say yes as they are already off and it saves the cost later if they fail

And Mike give Mike(skipton) a PM or he will just post on here later with costs, i got mine at a discount through work so not sure RRP-discount

Don't quote me on this as I've not got prices to hand, But if I recall correctly, The Strut top mountings are around £13 + VAT each, The bearings around £10 + VAT each and the bump stops somewhere between £8-£14 a corner.

Hope that helps :)

Al, there's no need to renew the mount, unless it is broken - they cost £18 each too.

As to the strut top bearings, they are £13 each and the bump stops are £8.50 - you'd be best advised to replace these latter 2 items per side whilst you're at it and just the bump stops on the rear (they don't have bearings).

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Al

Some club members have shown an interest in fitting FSD shocks with standard ride height springs. As the Audi front springs are prone to breaking it would be sensible to replace them with good quality aftermarket versions at the same time. Our German A2oc friends recommend Spidan springs (subsidary of GKN) but they are not currently available in the UK.
Are they something Awesome could obtain, both for FSD conversions and as replacements for failed Audi parts. More info in this thread - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9734&highlight=spidan

Cheers Spike

To be fair, If I was having a set of shocks fitted to my own car, I'd replace the top mounts anyway just as a precaution, As if they were to go in the future then its an hours labour per side + geometry re-alignment to get new ones fitted. Having them done with the shocks means no extra fitting cost!

Hi Spike,

I've had a look into these just now and unfortunately none of our suppliers are able to get hold of GKN or Spidan products :(

I can however obtain Lesjöfors Front coil springs at £30 + VAT per side if anybody is looking for just a standard front replacement.

Hope this helps,
Taa, Al.

I've yet to hear of a mount going on an A2 Al - on a big heavy Bora, possibly!

I hear what you're saying regards saving labour, but a new mount is just as likely to fail as an old one - there are no moving parts, nor is it a wear and tear item.

Cheers,

mike

Its just one of those peice of mind things to be fair. We've replaced them for a customer before and admitedly his top mounts were a little worn on the rubber part.

My biggest worry at the moment is what Awesome will do regards warranty if indeed Koni go into liquidation, as is widely regarded as probable in Europe at the moment.

The lifetime warranty will therefore be useless if this happens.

Cheers,

Mike

PS Say hello to Sarah for me - she did me proud a few years back in getting the last Miltek exhaust for the A2 in the country, as well as selling the first FSD/Weitec A2 package for the A2 to me!

As you are on the Isle of Wight and are willing to venture over to the mainland, take a look at JKM (VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda specialist) based in Portsmouth. They are currently doing 15% off Koni's at the mo.

Website and on-line store at www.jkm.org.uk

You may need to enquire about ones for the A2 as they don't have them listed, but as a guide they have them for the A3 96 > 03 for £ 416.49 Ex VAT and this presumably will be plus fitment.

Take a look.

I have used JKM for servicing when I had the SEAT and they are great and friendly and really seem to know what they are doing. They also have a rolling road on-site as well.

Sarah Says Hi...

I wouldn't be too worried, We have heard absolutely no rumours nor facts about Koni's financial security. Koni are one of the most well known Shock absorber manufacturers there is so I would hope they'll be around for the forseeable future. To be fair, they don't come with a Lifetime warranty anyway. Lifetime warranties from Koni were stopped a little over 2 years ago now.

Well, at least I am still covered then - they can't stop lifetime cover retrospectively!

As to the security of the future of Koni, the fact that they're one of the biggest in the world is no guarantee of success at the moment - look at GM for a prime example!

Fingers crossed for them at any rate!

Cheers,

Mike

Yeah, If you bought them when the lifetime warranty was applicable, then you will be covered still. Of course this only covers manufacturing defects and not wear and tear.
I thought however that it was only the Sport Kits that had the Lifetime warranty? They don't go wrong much anyway so you should be fine.
