FSD's

When fitting FSD's with or without new springs, no settings are affected so the suspension geometry is not altered in any way. If the car was tracking true before the installation there is no need for an alignment check.
If the springs are shorter, the ride height is lowered. I think that will modify the camber...

When i had my FSD/Weitecs fitted the installer did a geometry check although I do not recall any adjustment being required. After 25,000 miles since fitting tyre wear is pretty even across the tread. I am of the opinion it shouldn't affect geometry.....

Hi fbi

I agree the camber angle will change with the shorter springs. As you may know however, on A2's the camber can only be equalised 'side to side' by moving the subframe. If the camber is already optimised then fitting FSD's, with or without shorter front springs will mean that no further adjustment is necessary.

Just phoned Awesome up, they are not expecting delivery from Koni until end of September, just thought I'd give everyone a heads up.

Changed from 17's to 15s pepporpots with Falken 195/55/15, have to say quite impressed with the handling...mmm... definelty need the FSD's though on the more bumpy roads. sorry havent updated by signature yet

Well I got a 4wheel alignment done after fitting the FSDs. Yes the rear axle is fixed and rear alignment should have been affected by the FSD replacment, but maybe the alignment wasn't right before? According to the alignment check I had done, the rear wasn't right. If you're going to spend 700+ on new suspension you might as well get the alignment done to make sure it's 100% right when it's done?

No, the 15's defintley improve the ride, much softer over the bumps. BUT the FSD's still required as the ride is still to harsh over some roads.

I think awesome do the 4 wheel alignment as part of the service which I will be defintley get!!!

The A2 is the only car I have worked on where none of the suspensions settings are affected when changing dampers etc. In my view, the need for an alignment check is when the steering wheel is not centred, you hit a pot hole etc, have uneven tyre wear or the steering pulls to one side. It may be convenient to have it done with the suspension work for peace of mind but just having FSD's fitted is not a good reason to spend £100 or so on an alignment check. If the set-up was correct before then fitting new dampers will not change anything.
I just wanted club members to be aware its not an essential part of the FSD installation. It is however something worth considering if the car has not been checked for a few years of if there are any symptoms of poor wheel alignment.

Imran,
The 15's do give a better ride than 17's but they do run out of grip far quicker though Huh?

Thanks Spike,I'm all up for saving £125 as thats what it would cost here for 4 wheel alignment,Hope the new front springs wont put it out either!

Well heres a pic of the stuff to get fitted Koni FSD's,ARB and bushes and then all the other stuff a few bags of bolts etc..........................;)

How much was the hole set I want to go very low, I'm going to stick with my standard 16" se wheels but I want the arch sitting no higher than 1-2 inches MAX above the wheel. Is that how low this kit gets it anyway or can I get another one??

And just a heads up for anyone that lives near heathrow, go to feltham tyres, tracking I think is FREE for a check up so if nothing is wrong they won't charge you, and I think I only paid £50 max for myn and I'm sure I got change! they are very freindly they do a great job and they won't charge you if they cant do it e.g if something is bent they tell you what needs to be fixed without any charge for their time(not sure if other places do this, maybe its normal??) £100 plus is alot!

Think I paid 60 quid for my 4wheel alignment. Scott there are quite a few threads about the various different spring and shock options and the relative lowering they will give so probably worth doing a search and enjoy a good read! The suspension guru on the forum is Schnelltrecker...

woohoo...FSD's back in stock at Awsome. Taking the A2 in on saturday for some damping lurve!

Yep, We're finally getting deliveries through from Koni of the A2 FSD's. We still have one or two of the very last orders outstanding, but it shouldn't be much longer before all the orders have been fulfilled!

If you want to go that low i would say coilovers, this set up is for a little sport but mainly comfort, as dan posted do a search but remember coilovers are very harsh and they will probably not give you the ride you want, you could always just lower it for the look but not sure how your rides going to be

Well just to add to this thread, finaly got the chance to blow the cobwebs off today and have a good feel of how it handles. So i went off to a road i go down when i road test the new cars at work, its a little twisty and nice and light with traffic but, it gives me a good bench mark for what others feel like down the same road ( so you know say compareing it to a GOLF lol) it handles very nice just what i wanted, feels very well balanced through the bends just what i wanted so very happy with the out come money well spent and i'm still glad i didn't put the -30's on the rear
The only thing now is the car goes round bends better but i need sport seats because i don't lol

Cheers Phil

Well, I finally got my FSDs and front Weitec springs from Awesome in the post today - I must have been one of the last. Just got to work out all the extra bits I might need such a bump stops & links etc, find a good installer (a day off to go to Stealth might be needed) and then whether I should go the extra mile to get that rear anti roll bar...

Rear ARB is becoming the mod that everyone's fitting this year after FSD's, Skipton cruise and the Komfortblinker i started everyone on early this year, need more over time for me to get it something for the new year i think
