FSD's

What are the spring options for a 1.4 PETROL with an owner that wouldn't necessarily like to lower the car?

The FSD moves the front up 10mm and the petrol version does not have enough engine weight to pull it back down - so are the stock regular springs ruled out?

The Eibach are no longer made (and they lowered 30mm - 20mm total).
ABT no longer shows A2 parts on the website (and they lowered 15mm, right? that would be just perfect). I've sent a mail to ABT and hope to get a reply if the A2 Sport spring kit still exists.

Aren't Audi Sport springs -10mm? Would those work?

Oh, and I'll probably go all the way at the same time - if they're going to disassemble the suspension might as well put some new ARBs and check alignment at the end.

It up to you there are people on here that have fitted FSD's and left original springs in, its all up to you comfort, handling and overall look

Phil

Rear ARB is becoming the mod that everyone's fitting this year after FSD's, Skipton cruise and the Komfortblinker i started everyone on early this year, need more over time for me to get it something for the new year i think

Phil

Yes I must admit this one's now on my mod wish list. Maybe if the price comes down a bit - anyone for a group buy?

tigas, I have weitec 30/30 springs on mine with the roll bar on the rear.
In no way is the car lacking comfort. It soaks up potholes and speedbumbs perfectly, it also corners like a go cart. Nearly a week in and I get more impressed every day.

From the high speed over the tops bumpy road from Skiptons to Holmfirth, to the local off camber corners with rough stuttery tarmac, to the 30 zone with speed bumps every 100m. The car is just better in every way.

This is not hyperbole, it really is that much better.

Considering it Dan after the rave reviews to date. Hopefully there may be someone attending ADI with one fitted to check out in the flesh?!

As already offered, anyone who can get near J30 M62 is welcome to come for a test run in mine. I know that certain folk from Grimsby must pass this way (cos theres feck all in the other direction!), and there are members from Otley and Harrogate.

Happy to help.

My problem with lowering is that my A2 has a cracked front bumper that rubs on some sidewalks (parking on top of the sidewalk is a necessity in central Lisbon) - on some sidewalks if I forget myself and get out too quickly the bottom of the cracked part hits the sidewalk, the bumper deforms and spits out the front radiator grille below the registration plate and the foglight covers (I do not have foglights). I live in fear of one day leaving those parts on the sidewalk and only finding out at home.

The front bumper is an extra cost on top of the costly FSDs. But I don't want the front higher than the back - in the A2, that's just a crazy look.

ah, in that case fit with standard springs. Will make your life easier.
Guess you are a bit far to visit for a test drive.

Only ever been to Lisbon once. Was on holiday on south coast in about 1999. Decided to drive up for a day trip. Got into lisbon over that amazing bridge from the south ok. For the return leg, for two hours we could not find the turning to get back onto the south bound bridge. Ended up driving 20-30 km east to another bridge further out of lisbon. Lovely city though.

Have Garmin nuvi now!

Here is a picture of 1.4 petrol with FSD and standard springs after 2.5 years. I have the diesel battery and bose subwoofer at the back as well. Personally, I don't have a concern about the ride height difference.

Well, I have a space-saver wheel in the back all the time (don't know why I bother)... Too bad that there are no -10 springs. Having a lower front is generally good for downforce and stability at speed. And looks nicer..

@chb:
The road system that connects to the mini-Golden-Gate is a mess and they keep plugging new feeder roads into that. But if you stray too much out of the freeways and into town the directions to go back disappear.

So anyway, you got a tour of Lisbon, you probably passed under the arches of the aqueduct (survived the Richter 9.something earthquake of 1775), went all around, were probably scared stiff (or mesmerized) by a plane making it's final approach 100m over the road, and crossed a bridge that by that time was about one year old. Lucky you, the other option was another 40Km away, is connected to B-roads and you'd have a devil of a time to get back to a highway.

No we ended up going to vila franca and crossing there!
It was a formative/bonding experience in my marriage.

I had FSD's fitted to my 1.4 petrol 2 weeks ago, along with with Weitec -30 front springs.
Now the car is level, the front isn't lower than the rear, it's just nice.
But it is said it takes 2000km to settle, so it's now still too early for conclusions, I've only done 300km or even less.

PS : went to Liboa too :) 5 years ago. Nice city !

Well, if it's not very noticeable I'll probably end up getting Weitecs as well. The bump stops still need to be pruned, right?

I've had new bumpstops fitted front & rear, but didn't bother shortening them.

I've finally got round to sorting the "before and after" photos of my FSD mod and the effect it had on ride height.

Before I had standard SE suspension, with 17" B7 RS4 replicas.
After, having used Weitec 30s at the front, and Audi Sport springs at the rear, with the same wheels.

As you can see, a consistent, noticeable and I think aesthetically very pleasing lowering :)

The more eagle eyed amongst you will also spot that the car has shed its wheel centre caps

Just got the drivers side off, what a dog!
even tried removing bonnet hinge to see if it helped:p;)

Grim,your pics helped
Cheers

Back to the cold :-:)rolleyes:

my FSDs are booked in for Thursday... now all that needs to happen is that they actually turn up. Damn DPD.....
