Gear box stiff ?

Stiff

Guys,
I hope you don,t mind if I ask another question;
but since I bought my A2 last week the gear box
has been pretty stiff (so much so that my my learner driver struggled to change
gears whilst driving at the weekend. I have a warranty on engine and
gearbox and the garage said that they would look at it for me, with no guarantees that the could do anything and that I might just have to accept it
as it is?

Is this a common complaint with the A2 and are there any simple fixes.

Regards and thanks once again.

Can someone advise me how I could lubricate our Audi A2 gear change.

Drove the Good Lady's A2 yesterday and the lever is mighty stiff.

Audi did a Major service on it last month and did nothing to the linkage.

i had this problem. if its stiff when the car is not moving and switched off its prob the gear cables. you need to unclip them at the gearbox end and spray LOADS OF WD40 down them! (get somebody to move the gearstick as you do this) put plenty on and let it trickle down the cables for a while and do it again keeping them as vertical as possible. i took the inside consol off as well and disconnected the cables from the gearstick and did the same at that end. it cured it though and it was REALY stiff before i did it, i could only just change gear..
also make sure it has audi gearbox oil in as it is specific to that gearbox i am told. after much research i found it is slightly thinner than any other oil you can buy, to prevent stiffness and drag in the box.not even audi know the spec of it? it just comes as a part number....

Here's a youtube vid which demonstrates how to adjust the linkage (to illustrate the above post). They're talking about different vehicles but the process & gearbox are identical.
