I've added my name to the list :)
For clarity if other member want to join, continue to add their names to the list.

Some admn questions: How is payment going to be secured? PayPal? If a discount is on condition of 10+ orders then we can't have members dropping out at the last minute. Where will the parts be posted to? Skipton01?

Skiption01: Any idea how much you'll charge for the fitting? You might want to order more than 1 as I think this could be a nice business oportunity for you. IMHO

Do we have a date to set to make the order, otherwise this thread will continue on and on?

Thanks.

That looks like 18? Is that enough to bring prices down further?
Brettt, when will the order date close do you think?

I make it 17 Dan you've got Adrian888 down twice ;)

Yes how are things progressing with this?

Cheers Phil

I'm not involved in the group buy but if its an option and the price of the gear set does not increase significantly, I'd be tempted to keep the old cogs. It would save on return shipping costs and give you the choice of reverting back to standard if you ever sell the car.

Cheers Spike

I really can't see why they'd want the old cogs back - some will be well worn and of no real use.

Cheers,

Mike

Keen to join the purchase group as we do lots of long trips, but have any fitting arrangements been made?

Same as Spike. I'd like to keep my old cogs.

Maybe it is something to do with waste disposal regulations etc. However like Mike suggests it seems pointless shipping a pile of old cogs which will no doubt be costly in postage terms. Perhaps we should be getting the price clarified for outright purchase rather than on exchange basis? Unless they are somehow able to re-machine the old parts?

Fitting is straightforward, had it confirmed by an Audi independent I trust. It's a 1 1/2 hour job max, with the gearbox in situ. 5th gear cogs are easily extracted as they're immediately behind the gearbox end plate.

A one thing that concerns me a little is whether upping this fifth gear will adversely affect the ability to 'cruise' at 30 without labouring.
Since about a halve of my motoring is in a 30mph zone, would any benefit gained be, thus, cancelled out by having to drive in fourth?

Regards
Mike

I very much doubt that 30mph with the new 5th gear will be practical. However, as your speedo is going to be reading under (they all do) by around 12-15%, then you can safely cruise at 35 and still be legal.

To be fair, this 5th mod is not intended for town driving really!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike
So you're saying that 35mph should be just about doable with the new 5th gear?

I do have the same issue as Mike.M in that I have to do a fair amount of urban plugging and try as often as possible to bumble along at 30ish in 5th when I don't need to accelerate at all to try and be efficient, but then I still want to try and improve my higher-speed efficiency too, as I also do a fair amount of longer-distance runs, which is where I feel I should be getting better MPGs than I do now.

Heigh ho!

All mapped A2s should be able to pull 35 in 5th with the new ratio, but there'll be no response if you need to get out of the way fast.

In general, it's not good practise to bumble around with revs at just over tickover speeds, but as I said, this isn't really what this mod is intended for.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi
Could you put me down as well.

I am being thick, I looked through the post and could not find where to add my self.

Thanks David
