Happy A2 owner.

I would start by replacing the brake light switch.

May well be the cause but I would start with a scan to see what the error was before replacing anything.

Yes the brake switch is relatively cheap but it is a little tricky to get to (if you haven't done one before) and why replace something that isn't broken>

Thnx, I will take it to AUDI after the new year sometime, because of strange opening hours here, so they can do a scan.

Could it possible be a electric fault? Because a few weeks ago I had to change like 5-6 bulbs, but I also noticed some thing else strange. In the morning when I went to the car I noticed that the trunk door was completely open. I could just lift it open. It has happened 3 times now. In like 2 months. But all other doors was locked. And Im sure I locked the car the night before.

Yes, it may well be an electrical fault related to the recent work.
As for the tailgate, before you do anything about that just check that you aren't accidentally depressing the button on the fob in your pocket. Especially when sitting down.
That has often happened and as it is the centre button and sticks our further than the others it is no surprise.

For the sake of 10 quid and avoiding paying for a scan unless you have vcds and a hand scanner.I would check for water in the passenger crypt where the ccu is.Btw birchall As the switch I mentioned seems to be the cause of many a hiccup so why not for a tenner and possibly negate a trip to the garage.depends if you are that way inclined.

Hi,

You are right of course, but I am a bit of a skinflint and so a free VCDS from a local member would be my first option.

Second free option would be to get someone to tell you if the brake lights are working correctly.

Failing that £10 is not a lot as you say, assuming that the OP feels able to do the job too, it is 15 minute job if you have done one before, but for someone who hasn't even owned a car before?

So you are right, I wasn't questioning your help, I just prefer to check before replacing anything.

Hope you didn't take my suggestion the wrong way.

Today I experienced something strange. I was driving down the high way, returning home and had driven for 10min maybe. When suddenly the warning tone goes of and I see a warning triangle with a "!" in the middle and a ABS sign also if I remember correctly. I pulled over some where safe and restarted the car and everything seemed fine. It was the first time some thing like this happens. What could it be? Should I be worried? Should I take it so someone can check it out?

I would like to think after seeing this and experiencing it myself but you are right too

I have yet not had the opportunity to do the VCDS scan, but I will in a day or so. And will let you know if you are interested.

But something very interesting happened to me yesterday. I was driving on the same road (highway), going home from the same place. And on the same exact place (+/- 1meter!) i get the same error.... ..and the plot thickens. hehe

My new gear gaiter just arrived and I have tried all morning to get the old one out. I just cant manage to get the leather out from under the knob. And yes, I tried brute force. Is there a trick on how to get it out? I think I need to remove the black plastic ring.

Hey,

It was very helpful I had just forgotten about it. The gaiter is on and back in the car and I think I gained at least a couple of hp.

So now when the gaiter is on I have to move on to the next project. I have been thinking for a long time to get a OBD scanner and I think its about time I get my self one.
I been looking around and if Im not completely wrong the Audi a2 2002 1.4TDI is using the OBDII CAN-BUS?

There is a bunch of stuff on the fleebay but I narrowed them down 2 different scanners I can think of buying.

They all seem to work on the CAN-BUS but they say, and I quote: "Car coverage : This scanner works for all OBD2 compliant cars ,

that means item will work for all petrol cars from 2001 , and diesels from 2004 In UK & Euro"

So does that mean it will or wont work on the 2002 TDI? If there are others that you guys can recommend with in the same price range pls let me know.

Hi there. The club won't recommend or endorse any of the cheap scan tools that are available on eBay. The subject has come up a few times and consensus amongst the tech guys is that only the genuine vcds cable and software is recommended. It's about 300 quid so probably only an economical investment if you are a serious hobby mechanic or would save over time by avoiding chargeable scans at a garage.

From previous threads on this ( and memory serving) many of the low end scanning tools are believed to be supported with counterfeit software - so again, the club won't recommend these and if you remain set on purchasing one of these - ' you pays your money and takes your chance'

Sorry I can't be of any help to you.

Hi Murdo. thnx that is help in its own way. I guess I will put that on hold for now until I have more money or maybe I get lucky and find a second hand some where.

So I guess I just have to move on to the next project. I was thinking I could install some fog lights. Seems like a not to complicated job, even for a guy like me. But looking under the plastic cap (proper name?) I could not find any wires. Should I look better or could the wires be missing? I was hoping it would come pre-wired like the side mirror heating.

I had this ones in mind:

Unfortunately the loom for the front fogs will not be present unless the car was originally built with front fogs.
Also, the headlight switch will not be correct, as it won't have the function to operate front fogs.

It's not an impossible job to retro-fit to OE spec, but it's certainly not an easy task, and a custom made loom and new headlight switch will be required, in addition to the parts in your link.

A new headlight switch is approx. £90.

Cheers

Jeff

Bummer, I was hoping for a easy fix. Well, I guess I just put that on hold for now also. So the question is what my next project should be. I called a garage today and they gone fit a cruise controller on Friday. :D But I also noticed that they do chip tuning. They use something called O.TC tuning. I dont know anything about them beside that they are a Austria based company....I think... Anyone here know anything about them? Any good or bad bad experience?

Ref your question on chip tuning. I don't know anything about OTC but as your cars is 12 years old its good practice to find a company who can give the car a diagnostic scan and health check before doing the remap. A before and after dyno check with some fine tuning on the dyno runs gives the best results.

Cheers Spike
