Heated mirrors

Hi David,

I'll have a look at the wiring diagrams and see if I can't figure out what's going on. If there's a nreak in the wiring though, it could be anywhere along its length.

Cheers,

Mike

Right-o, it seems that the wiring goes back to the door control module in the door panel, under the door card.

I've looked at your scan results from last year and you did have an intermittant fault with this control module, which may have a bearing on the situation. A meter put across the wires to the mirror and their termination at the control module (pins 5 & 6 on the 16pin connector) will check for breaks, which probably aren't there, but can be ruled out anyway with this method.

I suspect an internal fault in the door control unit to be honest, as the wiring is quite robust and well protected, and as you have heat going to the drivers side (and presumably the rear screen), then it can only either be the wiring betwen the central convenience unit and the door module, or the door module itself.

Cheers,

Mike

Cheers mike

How would i go about fixing it do i need to dismantle the door and mirror or do i need to take the floor up an look under there.

Take the door card off first and then check continuity with the wires I listed earlier and the ones in the morror housing.

A new door module will have to be coded in and I would urge a scan before shelling out on any parts, especially if the wires prove to be continuous.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks again for the speedy reply mike will have to wait till the weekend but will have a good look round the inside the door and mirror housing.

Bit miffed but these thing happen. You watch now ive done this it will warm up so i dont need themwhich will be just my luck.

Does the window allways work?

I think it is a connector which causes the problem. There also is a fuse for each door but I think than nothing would work in the door...

Does the window allways work

Yes it does and always has so thats why im thinking its the wires to the connectors rather than any thing else.

Cheers for the thought though.

I put my details to stores to find out how much discount i could get to see if it is better than dc, work with new and 6 month old Audi's and get good discount from local dealer. finished work at 4 stores still not got back to me prob have price tomorrow.

dear drakey
did the same conversion and am well pleased with it
just to say that if you look on the back of the miror there is a small chip type thing which is in fact a thermostat with upper and lower values set in it. so what that means is that the mirror will not actually work above a certain temperature (about 10degrees if i rememeber) so dont do what i did and think it is knackered when you turn it on and try and burn some rain off it and it doesnt work. bit frustrating but that just the way they are

actually a better way to test it is to put the mirror iin the freezer, that sussed it for me. the components are not always manufacturered to the same tolerance, as mine are out of sync with the start temp too. i got all the info off the manufacturer of the chip on the back

couple of hours should make sure, then when it is nice and frosty you can actually see it working as well, try swapping the actual mirror glasses from side to side and just leave the glasses hanging to test them to logically eliminate the wiring problem or prove it

Got mine fitted still cannot belive it just need the glass, got my A2 a year ago this coming weekend and only just got them done thought it was a bigger job than it was (and cheaper!!!).

Cheers Phil
