Heated Seats

Its in this thread, either page one or two, posted by erstens. Its a pdf file but its in german, and uses the MSH50 kit which is slightly different.

The MSH100 comes with wiring and switches etc, and if you look at erstens post you can see what he has done with the switches which is quite clever TBH.

Thanks, will have a look.

Thread revival!

This is really very easy - the only complicated part is if you want to use Audi switches.

I retrofitted heat element pads into my E46 BMW and they typically use 3 wires: +12V, Earth and Can BUS / Control wire.

The switch then needs to switch it on and add current. You should add a proper fused +12V if possible but a direct fused feed from the battery is also possible.

Get them in the seats, identify the correct pins for the Audi switches and away you go.

I am in the process of transferring my leather and alcantara sports seats into another sport with cloth seats. My seats have 2 connectors, yellow and red which I assume are airbag and lumber. Having read through the above I have a couple of questions if anyone can help:

1) How easy is it to and how do you remove the seat covers, from Skipton's post it appears straight forward on the surface. As my car had done 200,000m and the replacement has 80,000m the bolsters etc are more solid so swapping seat covers would possibly be preferable to swapping the whole seat?

2) Is there an easy way to tell if I have heater elements, my seats are late 2002 and the new ones 2004?

I am thinking in an ideal world, I should swap the covers and fit elements if required for a future project.

On another note, I don't think there was ever an option for electric seats in the A2 - other than lumbar. Has anyone ever retro fitted them from another model? / recommended donor?

Although I'm not 100% sure, I believe that early A2s with leather seats had the heating elements integrated irrespective of whether seat heating was specified or not. However, I have never seen a set of seats from a 2002 A2 onwards with integrated heating elements unless the car was specified with heated seats from factory. I'm therefore fairly confident in saying that neither of your two sets of seats will have heating elements already fitted.

Cheers,

Tom

My 2001 SE leather seats didn't have the elements in.. :(
That why I had to get the recaro seats to add the function

Mine might be an odd one though. it was owned by me ;)

Best guess would be that factory fit seats only had heating if the option was specified while leather 'service part' covers would have them as standard.

Can categorically say that early Audi A2 Sport leather seats (c2002) have NO heating elements - at least that's for most UK spec cars. Just in Process of dismantling A2 sport leather with lumbar control.

Will try these VAG parts which fit seats from Lupo to Bora and Golf:

1J0 963 555B
1J0 963 557C

& Possibly cubby box

Really? Quite surprised by that

I can categorically say that early A2 Sport leather seats MAY have heating elements. It depends on whether the option was chosen when the car was built.
My 2001 leather sports seats do have heating elements. :)

What early A2 Sport seats won't have, or any others for that matter, is lumbar adjustment. That wasn't an option on any seats until later when it also became standard for sports seats.

Seem to recall this discussion centred around the likely-hood that all service part replacement leather seat covers from Audi incorporate heating elements. The workshop manual states that when used on non-heated seats, the 'tails' or connecting wires should be cut off. This snippet of info then raised the question if factory fit leather seats ordered without heating may have the elements fitted but not connected.
From the response of members who have checked this out, its safe to say that production seats only have elements fitted if the option was specified when the car was ordered (subject to seat heating being available at the time)

Cheers Spike
