Is this handbrake section going to be a problem for all over the months and years to come?

My apologies to Joga. I stand corrected! I spotted the Audi Tradition offer when searching for a photo of the part to see how it is assembled not realising Joga was well ahead of me!
If Steve's experience is that it is mainly the shorter section of cable (maybe with the longer one and tube being better protected) I can volunteer to produce an accurate CAD drawing of that component to enable folk to make a simple replacement part. If the failure is just as likely to be in the longer tubed part then I think we would need a more professional detailing/manufacturing arrangement as a group. It would be useful in the meantime to have a more detailed photo of the point of failure so as to ascerain how the cable is connected at the end furthest from the tube (ie not the swinging point). atb

It is some information about cable repare at: https://www.drive2.com/l/577321396103807275/
Language is russian so use google translate.

Dymytro's link is very helpful. It confirms that a repair of both cable parts (of the single Audi unit) can be repaired. It also shows a match with Steve's photo in that the corrosion and breaking of both cables occurs at the back end not the handbrake end. The repaI have translated the paras in the link and will attempt to paste it into the following post. It will be as it came from the computer translation but it makes sense. atb

The middle handbrake cable broke, namely the short leash. Original cable number 8z0711951c. Since the price was sky-high for him, he decided to repair it.

and so in order to remove it, it is necessary to dismantle the seats, remove the rear carpet and the central tunnel, the cable itself is held on by two latches

pulled out to the bottom, I removed it without unscrewing the heat shields, but I had to bend the edge at the screen a little bit. And so the cable was removed, sawed off the rivet on both sides that holds the leash, put the same rivet back and fixed it by welding. The thickness of the cable itself is 2.8mm along with the sheath 3.2mm. The length of the leash, namely the working part of 183mm, changed from the center of the hole to the beginning of the hook

this leash was made from the main central cable, which it was decided to change the same due to corrosion wear in the area of \u200b\u200bthe right hook. And so a new hook and tip were ordered from the turner

their size is 11mm long. Thickness 8mm. the hole was drilled with a 2.8 drill

the tip was turned to the desired size and a hole was made in it

Next was found the handbrake cable from some kind of foreign car, bare without a plastic sheath thickness of 2.8mm. the hook and the tip were pressed with a hydraulic press

the size of the working part of the cable from the center of the hole to the beginning of the hook 640mm

then everything was pressed and assembled
The repair cost was 200 rubles

There’s hope then, that when the supply from Audi Tradition dries up then all is not lost. For the record it can easily be done without removing the seats and rear carpets, but for ease of access they should be.

I would like to check my cable. I know it's under the heat shield but I could use an endoscope but it would be useful when under the car to know where to look. According to this diagram

https://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a2/a2-93.png

it seems to be not far from the vertical wall in the footwell of the rear seats and more to the rear. Perhaps A2Steve could take a measurement next time he is under an A2, which seems like everyday ;)

Attached picture might be useful to mark

I enquired about stock with AT and if it was possible to place an order for more than was on the shelves and teh answer was no. You cant complete an order if teh item isn't stocked in the number you want.

Another member established they could buy over 2000 of these new cables from Audi so enough to replace each one in the UK, I would think.
What may not have happened yesterday is a quote from the company in Wales to produce a replacement section in volumes to replace the broken bit.

There’s no need for measurements, simply follow the handbrake cables from each wheel to where they meet in the middle and that’s where the assembly is located.

Excuse my ignorance, is a Welsch firm on with this?

Cheers

No, it wasn't felt there was a need because of the abundant supply available at AT.
Thanks Steve!

So over 2000 availible, think i would still sleep better knowing i had one on the shelf will have to get in on the group order if possible!

Many thanks

Howey

Does "Audi" having no stock also include TPS having no stock?

I take it the part comes as an assembly looking at the earlier diagram meaning you only need the 2 commonly availible cables (pagid from euros for example) to have the full handbrake cable assembly?

Howey, apologies if you know already but AT = Audi Tradition in Germany who won't supply direct to the UK due to postage, Brexit and VAT.

"Audi" could mean Audi UK who I believe no longer stock the item.
Its part number 8Z0711951C which is listed as "Guide Tube"
