Hi guys I'm new here,
I'm wondering if someone out here can help me with this lambda oxygen sensor!
My mechanic told me that my audi a2 1.4 l petrol 2002 has a 6 wire n six pin lambda!
But on line I can't really find a lambda with 6 wire!
Anyone can help me?:)
Thanks

Some of not most of the non genuine "generic" lambda sensors are bare wire versions and would need splicing into the original lead. I would go to an Audi dealer or a TPS counter (if you have a trade id) and get one with the plug pre fitted it is a far better option than risking a poor joint or possible issues in the future. GSF may be able to supply one with a plug but I would only recommend genuine sensors. Cheers Mike

The 1.4 petrol A2 engine has two lambda sensors, one that goes in the manifold and is called the "pre-Cat" sensor (Pre Catalytic convertor)
The other goes "post Cat".

The pre cat sensor is MEGA expensive (many advertised at £200 each!!) and has 5 wires, the post cat sensor is much cheaper and only has 4 wires.

So he may have meant 5 wires when he said 6. (or possibly he was referring to the plug that has 6 positions but only 5 are used on the A2)

But the advice is to speak to an Audi A2 specialist rather than a generalist.

Hi Birchall,
thanks for your help :)
i kind of got there, doing my studying on the net ,
but Audi dealers are crazy...270 euro for a Lambda sensor ,
but i dont know why my mechanic is keep telling me that my A2 has 6 wires and 6 pins ,
i found one from NGK for 110£ because i got my "friend" Richard that sells on ebay :)
so next week ill give it a go and ill see how it goes ,
By the way Steve nice car :)
you must love the A2
thanks again

Basically if if you have an error code that indicates the sensor is faulty and you fit the eBay one and the code doesn't go away then get your money back (which should be no problem if it is faulty)
if the error disappears after you have fitted it then it is working and should be fine for a long while.

I have used the eBay ones a few times and the cost saving is significant. But of course they are a tad more risky.

Your lambda has 6 pins but 5 wires, treat your mechanic to an eye sight test :)

This is the fact sheet from NGK http://www.ngkntk.co.uk/index.php/technical-centre/lambda-sensors/wiring-colours/ and "our" sensor is the bottom 5 wire. I have also this week bought that same item from Amazon that you link to. You will have another sensor downstream which is a 4 pin which is much cheaper but it's job is only to report back that the first sensor is doing its job right.

Hi Max

thank you (and others) fir the kind comments.

Yes, I reallly am impressed by the A2 design and I couldn't buy a new one, so I had to find a way to get a "new" one and with help from members of this great forum, I now have exactly the A2 I wanted.

I think this page is a bit more clearer: http://www.ngkpartfinder.co.uk/car_commercial_extra.php?id=6665
This is exactly the model (1825) that we need on the 1.4 petrol engines.

Thanks
