Milltek Exhaust

Well I think considering todays “normal“ European weather conditions, i.e. rather rainy than snowy winters, I am convinced that the Audi stock muffler will last for at least 10 years before the first serious rust pitting will show up.

Right! You have just saved me £250. I shall get back to you if my exhaust doesn't last at least 10 years

Not able to find a suitable 90bhp A2 I went for the 75 and I was thinking that a SS exhaust would give a useful bit of extra oomph, but I seem to recall someone on this forum saying they didn't notice any difference. If that is so, then I shall stick with my existing exhaust.

My Milltek on my BMW, as I've already said, is already showing signs of wear after 2-3 years, if you want an exhaust that lasts stick with the Audi one, plus the noise of a Milltek or other exhaust will drive you mad if you drive any great distances. My original BMW exhaust lasted 15 years, the new stainless one may last 5 if I'm lucky, stainless steel is very brittle, and the thickness of some of these exhausts is a little marginal, to say the least. Weigh your Audi exhaust against a replacement one and see which weighs more. Oh I'm so cynical.

AMD claim the Milltek exhaust adds 3bhp and 7lbs.ft totque to a chipped 75bhp TDi (and probably a few extra bhp on a 90 TDi which will benefit more from the improved gas flow)
Wonder if anyone still has the Audi Driver mag which featured an AMD modified TDi with this exhaust ?

Cheers Spike

Some so called performance exhausts lose power - Hayward & Scott and Scorpion being two well known examples - especially in dual pipe applications - manufacturers spend an age getting the gas flow right, something which small companies just can't do, it normally involves complex cross over pieces to balance the gases in each pipe. It not as simple as making a pipe with some shiny ends on. A BMW like mine with a Hayward & Scott (very well known manufacturer of custom exhausts) lost 40 yes 40 bhp over standard, but it FELT FASTER to the owner because it was MUCH LOUDER. Once he had the dyno plot he took it off again and got a refund (£800). Very hard to get accurate data on this as most people haven't got the money to do a before and after dyno plot.
