my A2 12 months in

So coming up to 30 months and becoming attached to these great little cars, (contemplated the finance and new car route) decided it was time to sort some issues i had been living with and made the journey down to Milton Keynes to once again put the car in the capable hands of Tony and his team at A2 Cars.

Spotted this a few months back after hearing a blowing, which i initially thought flexi, intercooler.JPG
Split Intercooler:mad: common issue well documented on the forum and a very weak point by Audi. Considered my options, and as i plan to keep the car as long as possible decided on thisintercooler 3.JPG
Not a lot to see once expertly fitted, but a big peace of mind the problem will not occur again and car pulls so much better now.intercooler 2.JPG.

Starting to cost some money but it has served me well and intend to hang on in there enjoying the A2 ownership.

what is that and what does it do?

Charge air coolers are used to cool the compressed air delivered through turbo-charging and super-charging. This is in part achieved by presenting a less restricted air flow through the cooler cores, more and larger fins offering greater surface area to be cooled and a greater air volume within the cooler. The nett result is denser, cooler air, carrying more oxygen to the combustion chamber and a more efficient combustion process with gains in power output.
Our Forge charge air coolers are made entirely of aluminium. This allows uniform expansion and contraction and are without plastic end caps and seals that deteriorate and fail over time. Forge charge air coolers fitted at A2 Cars are covered by a no quibble lifetime warranty and are suitable for the 75 & 90 BHP TDi's

copy and pasted courtesy of A2 cars post, believe it answers your question, a quick forum search for split intercooler shows how common this is on the TDI's, i have actually witnessed it on 4 out of 9 cars i viewed before purchasing the wife's A2.

What a great bit of work Vespa. I wonder what the bhp difference or at least what the increased driveabilility is as a result.

I,m guessing I would probably benefit from another remap to see it's true potential, a noticeable difference from running with the split intercooler tho obviously, reason for going the forge option was reliability longertivity ect rather than performance, original item is a poor design and don't want the same issue reoccurring in year's to come for myself or the next owner if I ever decided to part company.

OK so I'm a compulsive wheel changer, 4th set since taking ownership,
Initially bought for the wife's A2, whilst removing the pepper pots for polishing, tried them for size on mine :p
Think I will keep them, 16 " a1 et 34, rides and looks well.

Well until the next set catches my eyes ;-)

I know what you mean. I have had four different sets on the project.
The problem with wheels is that until you fit them you don't know for sure if you like them or not.

I do like yours though. They suit the car very well.

Pepper pots with polished rims are my ideal choice but unfortunately the15" look leaves me less than satisfied.
Always amazes me the transformation a wheel change gives the car.

Oh what I would give for a
17" pepper pot :) same weight as 15" ones tho.

Yes, that would be great.

They fill the arches surprisingly well. A nice upgrade for the A2 as they can be had quite reasonably.

Arrived today, so the modding begins on the wife's A2, bought and fitted the same kit for mine after superb advice from Mike (A2sumo) a while back, was a little sceptical but they have stood the test of time faultlessly, so with darker nights and failing eyesight a must do job.
Thankfully no mention of heated leather lately so happy to spend a little for a major improvement, and less moaning :-o.

3 year update of ownership on fx02ueh.

Over the past 12 months it's been a case of "out with the old, in with the new".
The intercooler, mentioned earlier in thread, koni fsd's, replaced with the highly regarded Monroe reflex shocks, springs all round, oem correct colour code for specification on the car (opensky), top mounts, ect ect, basically a full overhaul on the suspension. Also been replaced, both front control arms, along with brake calipers, brake pipes/lines and various other braking components, rear hubs, handbrake cables ect. a clean bill of health and sailed through the annual mot.
4 wheel alignment, tyres and rims and the occasional Polish, all is well.

As always a big THANK YOU.

Tony, aka Hotstuff, aka A2 CARS. and his team.
Steve, aka Birchall.
Steve, aka A2steve. and any others I have private messaged seeking advice and recommendations over the past 12 months. All valuable assets to keeping these cars going.

Here's to the next 12 months of fx02ueh (b).

And as has been the practice over my ownership, each milestone brings a new addition .

All credit for this example must go to alanm, a long time club member, who until recently hadn't frequented the forums until another member posted a wanted advert. (so glad he did).

Not wanting to step on toes and following the motto "shy bairns get nowt", I contacted alanm to ask if it would be possible to have some details on his car as I had been searching and enquiring for some time, looking for the right one and dismayed at what was available.
Alan reassured me that no toes were being stepped on and forwarded some details about his car.

At the end of August 2016 it* had a long life service at Lincoln Audi (112,267 miles), at which a new cambelt + water pump were fitted (as was done at 60,000 miles). They also supplied and fitted a new clutch and factory gearbox a few years ago. The Opensky works perfectly and the next MoT is due on 31 August 2017.

It's a 2003 Azure Blue Tdi SE 75 with: Climate; DIS; MFSW; Factory cruise control; OpenSky; Auto-dip rear mirror; Electric front mirrors with heated glass; Electric lumbar support; Audi OEM Satnav; Symphony double DIN radio/6 CD Changer/Cassette unit. Audi rear park sensors + Audi OEM detachable towball & electrics; bespoke rolling road Jabbasport remap; Armourfend (now called Xpel) PU film paint protection; Two tone leather retrim - including door cards (designed and fitted by The Seat Surgeons, Poppleton near York); Koni FSDs + 00/00 springs; Komfortblinker; Audi A2 storage boxes (platinum coloured to match the car’s interior trim); Audi A2 rear drinks holder/storage unit in platinum that fits on the tunnel between the rear seats; new boot false floor; ABS boot tray; Audi rubber all-weather mats front & rear. A couple of years ago Lincoln Audi supplied and fitted a new instrument display panel (the central LCD display in the original had become blurred);

I fitted a K&N air filter soon after I bought the car in 2007;

When I had the Koni FSDs fitted I went for the recommended set of Weitec lowered springs. I soon returned to a new set of standard springs as didn't like the resulting stance of the car and the front engine under-tray getting scratched - I had a new undertray fitted.

I've updated the DX navigation system with a genuine Blaupunkt/TeleAtlas 2007/2008 CD of the UK & Ireland. This has traffic notices built in but these are in German.

I've replaced the original battery with a Varta Silver Dynamic one.

The description alone blew me away and I new instantly I had to see pictures, unfortunately alanm wasn't forthcoming in his years with the forum to add pictures, so searching his history brought nothing, but as promised the following day these arrived in my email inbox.

I recall sitting for some 30 minutes thinking wow:-o and then proceeded to call Alan to confirm he had found a buyer from the pictures alone and to congratulate him on the condition of the car and gave him my guarantee it would be coming to a new home to be cherished like it was accustomed too.

Monday couldn't come soon enough, but eventually I got to see the car in the flesh, and the photos don't do the car justice, (which most will no, A2's generally look better in pictures when advertised).
Basically to cut a long story shorter, after a long test drive, and an even longer journey home, I am now the very happy owner of this outstanding example.

Another big THANK YOU, to Alan & Val, an absolute pleasure completing this transfer of ownership with such nice people.

I understand it was hard to watch the car drive away, but you can rest assured I will continue to cherish it.

Adding more pictures below.
