my a2 project

Not sure about going on the track this year - the prices for a 10 minute session are ridiculous now - £50!!!

It's better value to go for a half day pass at £97.

We'll see!

Cheers

Mike

If there was a away of me getting both the A2 and Arosa to ADI I may consider taking the lil Arosa out, however I'm not sure 1/2 a day at Castle Coombe would be worth it (in comparison to over 200 laps of the Green Hell in a year!)

We shall see

seriously, £50!! Given CC's own session'ed trackday is ~£200 that is a rip off, especially they let the merchant cars run at the same time. That sounds even more expensive than BaT @ CC open pit lane! Which I was thinking of joining my friend in early Oct.

Mike, I don't think your bigger discs will make understeer any worse, not with your amount of torque anyway ;-)

w.r.t to earlier post, the A2's rear is a swing arm / torsion beam whatever it is properly named. It is not independent like a McPherson or double wishbone (or even leaf springs) so i really can't see how rear ARB makes a difference... I need some more clues here TBH. A qualife LSD for the front will be good. But with your usage, I think the money should be spent on a 6 speed box instead, unless you track the Tank a lot. Again, my 2p's worth.

In any case, my car will most likely be packed with a week's worth of luggage; am staying in the Cotsworlds the following week so unlikely I'll track with my golf clubs and cooking utensils and knifes flying around in the car! We'll see!

I'll be travelling light - no rear seats, no spouse!

I'm with you on the 6 speed box, as opposed to LSD - I'll have to try and get the back out a bit more to help with the understeer.

It'd be interesting to see what a proper race-trained driver could get out of Tank - more than me no doubt!

Cheers,

Mike

got someone in the know looking into the arb thang for me,so wil let ya know how it pans out.
collected my new wheels at the weekend, not exactly a revolutionary choice but one of my all time favourite o.e.m wheels and i still havent found a car they dont suit!
an e bay bargain at £150 inc 2 good tyres(although wrong size for a2)
2009-08-15201227.jpg

all 4 are in need of a refurb but that was always on the agenda anyway,so hopefully they should go off to be done next week and then ill sell my standard wheels to ease the financial pain of new tyres and a geometry set up after fitting the suspension kit.

oh and sad man that i am ,i bought an a2 plate for it as well lol

its now A2 KUU

phil, you're not wrong, lol!

But I've studied some footage of how to go into Quarry (although it was an Elise) so hopefully not going to run wide again. It is all understeer city in these hatchbacks though. But the Avon Rise is so bumpy I must admit I can't calm the car enough. I think I'll buy trackday insurance if I go again this year!

Lots of work going on here.

Could the A2 not have an uprated rear anti roll bar like the Beetle? THe one I got for that from VWR was basically worked to stiffen the rear beam rather than working like a traditional arb?

Wheels - I have had a look, but cant find the name, there was a guy who used to hang around on the oxford edition forums - leicester way I think - could make comps look like new again....having said that I did the criminal act and powder coated my comps!!!!

I'm still looking around for a nice A2, seen a couple of nice ones in main dealers but you cant make them sell you a car!!!!!

think ive found somewhere to do them, was gonna get chrome powdercoat but been told it sux long term, really want a cut/polished finish on them as that really shows the shape of the wheels off best.
just need to sell the standard ones to pay for it now lol

Yes it is true, I have fitted a Whitelines rear ARB for a N9 Polo obtained from Awesome. It has made a noticeable difference

I'll start a thread soon, once I have some pictures.

Regards Malcolm
