My A2 "Top spec" project (AKA my Holy Grail)

Steve, if Darren does change his mind, including my own car I have 3 complete sets of black door blades there so i'm pretty confident I could make up an immaculate unmarked set from the 3 I have plus then put the cash on top for yours. £154 seems a lot of money to spend if I can get an immaculate set together for you?

Hi

i am an impulsive guy and I want this all sorted for AITP so I have ordered the new ones.

But ut thanks for providing a sensible option.

Hi Steve,

I was wondering if you had any close up pictures of the rear pillars and the transition between black to white. I'm considering doing this on mine, and wonder how neat the line turns out as there isnt a sharp crease in the body at that point. I know the mk1 TT quattro sports had black roofs, and think they look good, but they have a sharper line on the rear pillars.

Thanks :)

i will sort something out on Friday.

it is back in the paintshop at the moment having the lines adjusted but the joint was crisp and worked well.
I will take a close up when it is back.

I am also having the wheels repainted (even though they are new)
tgey are gunmetal grey at the moment and I need them to be black to fit in with the overall paint scheme better.

it won't be that noticeable, but it will be to me and I want it right for AITP.

Can I go second in line on these Steve. They will fit in nicely with my master plan :)

Hi Steve,

Darren is away on Holiday at the moment and so he has said that he will pass on this, so you were next in line.

It is really tricky to value these, they are quite rare and no longer available.

Black new ones cost £150 for the 4, these are used and so the reduction for "used" probably balances out the increase due to the rarity.

But there is no way that I would ask that for them.

To me their true value is around £80?

BUT I never sell A2 parts at their full value, so how about £40 collected at AITP?

Hi Steve

I'm also away at the moment but have found a spare 5 minutes to get my fix of A2OC :)

I really do want these but at the same time don't want you to feel that you are not getting what you think to be a fair price for them.

I wouldn't be able to pay £80 for them but someone else might. Why don't you put them up on a classified ad for £80 and if they don't sell at that price then I'll take them at £40. I'm not going to make it to AITP but will be at ADI or would happily pay postage if you were prepared to send them before then.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Steve

Thanks

Steve

The price is £40, I don't sell at full value and never have on here.

So if you want them at that and will pay the postage then they are yours!!

Steve B

You really are a gent Steve. Please expect a massive reduction in price from me if you happen to want to buy anything I have for sale in the future.

Can you pm me your PayPal address and I'll send over my address and £50 to cover the postage.

Thank you

Steve

Unfortunately, when I took the blades off, it became apparent that they were just the standard ones painted to look like brushed aluminium.

That explains why they were not available from a dealer, they only sell them in the bare matt black plastic.

So to get the right effect you would just have to paint them or wrap them.

So Steve has been fully refunded (with apologies).

I think that when I first saw them (on a black tdi I once bought) the contrast made them look like brushed aluminium!!!

Silly me !!

But the black new side blades do seem to suit the project well, I am very pleased with the effect, but others may not be!!

Picture to follow.

As promised

Chrome handle covers come off now (hopefully the paint stays in place!!!)

I like the whole black and white look. I've had an A3 black edition in white and the new company car arriving early next month is also white with black styling pack - so this is very much my taste. Not that that matters a jot :p:rolleyes:

Been working on the headlamps, they MIGHT be ready for AITP, but I need to do some temporary wiring while I wait for Tom's visit (to carry out a few more wiring jobs)

These are just in temporary headlamps, if everything works as it should I will be fitting the internals into a set of better headlamps.

The main lamp is a bi-xenon projector unit with "Angel eyes" DRL ring (I had to modify the headlamp a lot to get this to sit far enough back from the glass)

The white strip at the bottom is an LED "tube" that gives an even white tube of light and when you use the indicators the white is turned off and the tube flashes orange.

I will also be fitting LED H3 main beam headlamp bulbs, the bi-xenons give a dip and main beam but rather than leave the original main beam inoperable I decided to fit LED H3s, because the extra drain when on at the same time as the Bi-xenons is tiny. If I was to use standard bulbs the total wattage would be a drain on the wiring and the battery.

I also have the chrome indicator bulbs to get rid of the orange tint when they are off.

I will try and get them sorted for AITP, I have set up all of the wiring of an evening in the lounge so that I will just have to find a live feed for the xenons (I bought digital ballasts for them too)

Your headlights look very impressive and really modern, Steve .... well done! I would like to emulate your efforts, too! Just a few questions and observations .... I have xenons for just the

dipped-beam, so when I go to main-beam, it is duller and yellow. Do I need another pair of ballasts if I go to a bi-xenon set-up? What else do I need to purchase to upgrade the main-

beam to xenon? You mentioned that the lower DRL's are "tubes", but they are not the true tube DRL's used in current Audi headlights? With your "Angel eye" ring, is there not a bit of

duplicating with your lower DRL strip? Does it still look O.K.? Finally, have those DRL strip lights shown and deterioration since being fitted? Mine have shown quite a lot, with many gaps

showing in the strip lighting, due to LED's failing ...

Hi David

The Bi Xenon uses one bulb and one ballast (per headlamp) there is a flap that operates via a solenoid to give the masking for the dipped beam.

What I am doing is using the bi xenons (in the dipped beam) and fitting an LED bulb in the main beam holder or that would be redundant.

So you would have to get rid of your current xenon if you want to use Bi Xenon (the "Bi" meaning that you get dipped and main from the same bulb).

When I tried the LED tubes before (these are the same ones that you have I think) I had problems with gaps, but that was caused by the way I mounted them, I made a hole in the white rubber and used wire to attach them and keep them in place and damaged the LEDs in the process.
This set came with clever little clear brackets, so I didn't need to make any holes or use any glue.
But where I cut the tube to size I have used a clear filler on the cut end, to prevent the ingress of moisture, so I am hoping this will help.

As for the duplication question, you will see many modern cars that have both a ring and a tube as DRLs and so it looks fine and even more modern.
