right now, the distance between the two is 100mm, it's too high. I'll be dropping it another 30mm or so, I think.

I've added a pair of 16mm boards underneath the amps and they look great like that.

- and here's the height of rebate (3mm).

thoughts? I won't be lighting them from underneath, there's no point. I'll just light with an LED or two on the front board. I also need to route the window for the fuseboxes.

So...Let's ask for pics of his leather doorcards. I would be very interested.

Hab ich recht, Bret? ;)

it's not been done like this... the boot floor is in, the amps are in and will be wired this week.
The tweets are not going in this way, I changed my mind. The 6.5s are in and sealed, they are waiting for the rest of the doorcard, which might happen this week and might not.
I have a lot on for the next few days but also a bit of time.

Bret

And again, it's still not done.

However, in the mean time there's a lot of kit lying around and there are 4 amps in the car at the moment....

The car PC is now back behind me on the table. It's been upgraded to a d510MO with 2GB and will be running Win7. Soundcard is now a Terratec DMX 6Fire. The PSU for the PC is an M2-ATX, and I'll be running an 80GB Seagate EE25.2 for the moment, which is only "extreme", i.e. OK down to -25.
The screen is a very long story, as is the whole thing. Way too many ideas and not enough time made to do stuff.

The PSU needs a new plate to fit into the box, as does the HDD. I'll cut and drill those tomorrow night.
The sub box has been re-done several times, each time failing to live up to my expectations. I am on the verge of giving up; I have one more opportunity and then it's curtains for that idea and I'll have to do it some other way.

The amps are now on the same boards which have been posted here, screwed to the wheelarches. The baseboard for the floor will have some 8mm holes and be screwed to the floor, along with additional support / security from more bolts in the sides. What I'm not 100% sure about yet is an awful lot.... Sticking with the tweets and 6" upfront and 10" sub. The 6"s each have 175W and the sub 400. The active XO will be done on the PC.

First up, the machine needs to run and run well. That's a step, along with picking up some more aluminium strips for the sides of the floor; that, and the temporary example of the baseboard including the cutout for the sub and the top section of the sub box, with the fixings for the final baffle. That's intended for this weekend, let's see how it works out.

It's supposed to be able to get reasonably loud without distorting, that's the main idea. We were sitting at some lights yesterday - me and the little monster in the car - and the young girl driving the Punto next door turned something up and the kid next to her starting dancing... I realised I've almost missed this kind of thing, so it really is about time something happened. First thing is to get the PC up and running, work out where it's going and then I can work from there. I have a lot of wiring to do.

Interesting thread, great attention to detail, I bet it sounds amazing.

I have a Phass PH 4.75 amp lying in wait, pity I sold my old Genesis 4 Channel & SEAS Reference components a few years ago - nice warm music!

I'll keenly await your decision on the PC's screen. I've been toying to stuff a touch based tablet into the car, but can't figure out a non intrusive way of doing it without getting a double DIN.

at the moment it's one of two places:
- sawing open the top of the dash over the airvents and then creating something complex to lift it up (which will be a true pain in the rear)
- the roof

We'll see, I've been told I need to get on with it, but I have Rally Finland this week and that's taking up a lot of my thinking time right now ;)

I bet this is everyone's first thought then back to the drawing board after thinking 'what if I messed up the sawing...' :) It will be really nice to open it up, I reckon expert dremel-ing on a straight jig then carefully do the round corners along the indented line. I thought to open it, fancy motorised screen would be nice, but I'll be happy with just a spring loaded push-open method. Come on, you know you want to saw it open, you have my support!

ha, but I want a replacement centre console before I do it (single-DIN would be fine, RHD would also be OK). And that's proving the difficult part, no to mention the fixing of the screen. long story cut short, it's been thought through, but I really would like the replacement console to be available.

Theres not enought room between the top of the vent shafts and the plastic on the dash to allow a screen to hide away in there. Well unless it was uuuuuber thin.... as in 10mm max

Its all down to the weaker Van der Waal bonds!! Unlike thermosetting plastics covalent bonds mean reshaping is possible in thermoplastics (remember that from doing design technology) :)

Ooo, I like seeing a bit of chemistry on the forums. :)

Right, I now have a deadline. 30 Nov. After that I won't have a hall (again) until I rent something of my own.

So for the moment it's a case of plan plan plan... I think I'm going to go with an upfront sub and the PC will be underneath the glovebox which will solve a couple of potential issues.
Need to get the carpet out again, though, for 8 channels of RCA to the boot and make sure all the cabling is already OK. Will have to schedule taking the dash out, too, because now it appears that my wife is going to need the car for work maybe once or twice per week (argh!).

Hi Bret,
Just a wild thought, on de top of the dash above the airvents there is not much room. How about a picoprojector in there that projects on the bit that opens?
Don't know if it will be visible enough with daylight, but you would not need such a complex mechanism to pop up. I know you like a bit of a challenge..:D
I sacrified my ashtray to accomodate a screen there and it sits just perfect with the right viewing angle and when not in use I simply flip it back.
Just thought I'd mention it, you never know. Also, there's a type of electric saw with a triangle shaped sawblade. You don't have to drill first and it can make quite nice straight sawing lines. Just don't remember the bloody name..
I'm sure you 'll think of something! But the longer you wait, the easier it gets,
think of thin foldable amoled screens etc.
Cheers, and success with your project! Gumbold (with the insipid green one)
