Hello Edd,

Tailgate spoiler is something I’m yet to acquire and may have to resort to making my own unless I can remove the Azure Blue one fitted to Project OEM.

The tyre size is 185/60/15. The wheels themselves will either be pushed outwards for better visual stance or swapped for a set of A8 D2 wheels that I’ve had in storage for a while now:

Think the above wheels will look quite nice.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening John,

Long time no speak Sir. I have been calling around local automotive glass outfits to have the very thing you mention done. So far I’ve had zero interest in anyone taking the work on. I’ll

If only I hadn’t used soo much windscreen adhesive to secure it down. I know I can get the Azure Blue spoiler removed but it’ll need some serious preparations afterwards before painting it Jaipur Red.

Decision time I think!

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

Ahead of getting the bucket and sponge out this morning to remove weeks of grime I thought it right to document the pampering it’s received the last 10 months. Remember that this particular A2 left the factory with next to no optional extras ticked at the time of purchase. Everything you’ve seen in the pictures less for front fogs, illuminated vanity mirrors and Swing false floor has been added since December last year. Hopefully I don’t omit anything that has recently been added.

First up a quick reminder of how glorious it looked prior to my ownership:

Here’s a few pictures of how stunning it looked after a quick wash on my driveway back in December, this was of course prior to the enhancement/retrofit process commencing:

As you can see from the above pictures, it really didn’t require much attention as Paul @PaulA2 handed this A2 over in fine fettle which was totally useable straight away. I recall the grin on my face when looking in the rear view mirror on my first drive up the road, quite an exciting moment as I was so chuffed to have secured a fantastic deal with Paul and I really enjoyed my first commute.

Below is a list of what has been added or improved since January this year, in no particular order:

1. Removed faulty Q CCCU to make way for an AF CCCU
2. Replaced OS and NS headlamps for crystal clear variants
3. Retrofitted spare wheel bracket
4. Complete Swing interior trim and carpets removed and replaced with Soul
5. Removed SE wheels, choosing Pepperpots for economy
6. Project name change post for A2 related VRN swap
7. Added black leather heated electric lumbar SE seats
8. Retrofitted Soul AADRVM with digital compass
9. All interior bulb replaced for LEDs to brighten a now very dark cabin
10. Retrofitted a second luggage space light
11. Fitted Club number plate surrounds and Club badges along with anniversary sticker
12. Fitted TT foot pedal covers along with a beautifully finished bespoke footrest cover
13. Added Club branded black footwell mats
14. Retrofitted A5 FBMFSW with A3 8V airbag
15. Swapped cruise control stalk for later generation and tidied up the retrofit loom
16. Installed centre console storage tray
17. Single DIN dashboard removed and replaced with a Double DIN assembly
18. Retrofitted RNS-E PU running the very latest custom firmware which features all that these head units can right now
19. Retrofitted Audi Music Interface (AMI) with WMA1000 BT adapter for perfect quality cable free streaming
20. Retrofitted Bluetooth telephone module for perfect quality handsfree calls when necessary
21. Retrofitted Q5 QI Wireless charging module
22. Swapped the branded mats to the factory rubber type
23. Retrofitted rear speakers and looms into the doors
24. Retrofitted revision Q DIS instrument cluster
25. Swapped the fuel sender to match the later generation DIS instrument cluster retrofit
25. Added second horn (now dual tone)
26. Installed fresh painted headlamp washer bumper then completed the electrical part of the retrofit
27. Swapped drivers side rear door for a cosmetically better assembly (lacquer peel on original)
28. Retrofitted Bose to compliment the rear speaker retrofit
29. Added Swing rear cup holder which was recoloured to Soul
30. Removed the rare leather SE seats to make way for the even more rare black alcantara/leather heated sport seats.
31. Rear PDC retrofit, just waiting to install the Arduino for rear PDC/OPS display on the RNS-E PU
32. Retrofitted 12v luggage space socket
33. Replaced door card armrests with leather items which were recoloured
34. Had a bargain JDD gearbox installed for economy
35. Added S3 chrome tipped switches on the door card armrests
36. Repainted door mirror covers
37. Installed bespoke armrest bracket to receive a black leather lidded A6 C5 armrest
38. Fitted various heated seat climate control panels
39. Fitted boot tidy rubber strap
40. Fitted modified A6 cargo net on false floor
41. Retrofitted full winter pack, upgraded to later revision jets and wiper arm at the same time
42. Installed Komfortblinker/comfort indicator relay
43. Replaced the rear number plate light screws for stainless steel alternatives
44. Installed heating elements to the FBMFSW
45. Added seatbelt warning loom and connectors to the drivers alcantara seat
46. Installed the freshly painted Votex kit
47. Retrofitted seat heating and electric lumbar looms for full seat functionality

It’s taken a while to get to this stage whilst holding down a film time job, being a top husband and top dad all at the same time of conducting some seriously time consuming home renovations. That said I’m over the moon what has slowly been completed so far. I’m satisfyingly amazed at what can be achieved with a bit of time dedicated to research followed getting the tools out having a go myself. My knowledge base has certainly increased during the evenings over the last 10 months pampering this stunning A2.

What’s left to be fitted:

1. 3DColorMFD screen
2. Headlining requires reupholstering
3. Retrofit SideGuard
4. Locate or make a Votex tailgate spoiler
5. Decide what wheels will compliment the vehicles new exterior look
6. Replace drives door for a cosmetically better assembly

Think that’s pretty much it but may have missed things off. I’ll edit this post as and when I remember something.

The sun has revealed its face so about to get the bucket and sponge out to give the car a good clean to then obtain some pictures of this beautiful A2 sporting its new exterior look.

I’ll be back in a few hours.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom - what an amazing job you have done on this - all that’s left to do is to sell it to me 😀
Carry on with the great work and if you ever decide to sell let me know

Morning Dave,

Thank you for the kind and encouraging words Sir. You’ll be the first to receive a PM if it ever comes up for sale, right now this is the keeper and if anything was to be shifted it would first be a certain Azure Blue TDI.

Very impressing. You show a fantastic dedication and it is very interesting to follow your deeds.
What is the main driver for you, the update journey or the final result incl the keeping/using?

Thanks Tom - both cars are truly amazing in my eyes but Jaipur red is my favourite Audi A2 colour ever and the spec of yours is awesome
So jealous of this amazing transformation

What are these wheel called, they look like Audi Pie Plates. They look like they are forged also.....very nice

Morning Joakim @Joga,

Thank you for another set of kind words Sir. I guess I could well fall into the dedicated, leaning towards obsessive category. I simply enjoy having the very best specification A2 that I can without holding my wallet wide open. It’s also so satisfying being rewarded with the fruits of my labour when time permits to nip out and tinker.

As for my drive, probably a mixture of the above sentence along with trying to get this A2 to a similar (or better) specification than Project OEM. The Azure Blue OEM A2 had plenty of hour spent on it in a much quicker time during the lockdown. Time is something I no longer have in an abundance so have to squeeze any tinkering around work and family commitments, usually after the boys are down for the evening which is why progress is nowhere as quick as it’s sibling on the driveway. The minimal time I do manage to get outside is time well spent when you can have something like this on the driveway:

IMG_7789.jpeg

The refinements completed on the fleet is certainly for keepsake, no work is conducted just to increase value to sell. That said if there was a reason to sell o of them then this special Jaipur Red A2 would be the last to go.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks again Dave,

Yes it really have been transformed from what was a totally useable A2 to something quite special now. Very happy with the outcome so far. Still got a few things to source before I sit back and just keep on top of the maintenance.

I’ll certainly keep you in mind should anything change in the future.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning,

Yes these wheels are forged so reasonably lightweight. They are A8 D2 winter wheels, part number: 4D0601025AA.

IMG_7798.png

They are extremely nice and look great with the flatter face. Being ET42 they sit deep within the wheel arch but that is overcome with adapters as they are require to convert from 5x112 to the A2s 5x100 bolt pattern/PCB.

I have a set in the garage and have the remaining life of the Goodyears on the currently fitted Pepperpots for me to finally what to do with them. I may even switch to something larger, knowing the comfort will be challenged.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

Bucket and sponge time complete, just as well as the sky has become rather dark and grey this last 30 minutes. I started off on the inside of the vehicle last night. Everything was freshened up and the interior smells quite welcoming. Post the earlier wash I only had time to give the coachwork one layer of orange DodoJuice. I’m sure a light machine polish will bring up the faded paint to a lovely finish.

I absolutely love the new look from the front:

IMG_7791.jpeg

The OS looks really nice with the addition of the freshly painted Votex side skirt, much better than the mat black sills but does mean more to polish. The OSF jacking point cover is still at the painters which I’ve not been able to collect due to. It heading into Lincoln for almost a month:

IMG_7792.jpeg

The NS looms just as stunning, still not sure about painting the rubber door rub strips. I’ll leave them black for now but can easily recolour them at home in the spring or summer if I decide to colour code them:

IMG_7793.jpeg

You’ll see that the rattle can used for the PDC sensors wasn’t colour matched to 22 years of fading but should be okay in time:

IMG_7788.jpeg

Think you’ll agree that a Votex tailgate spoiler is urgently required.

I do like the fresh looking door cards with their black leather armrests, chrome door openers, chrome tipped switches and of course the latest retrofit; Bose speaker grills

IMG_7796.jpeg

IMG_7795.jpeg

A quick peek at the sweet smelling interior that is clean but does require a deep detail, probably not going to happen right now with the pending wet weather closing in

IMG_7790.jpeg

IMG_7797.jpeg

A few little soldering tasks need completing which will see this marvellous commuter boast something that was first seen in Project OEM. Yes the rear PDC/OPS display on the RNS-E PU. I think a few other members have also installed an Arduino for the very same enhancement but I’ll be quite happy with both of the fleet sporting this elegant display.

Run out of room for further pictures. On this specific post so will end here for now.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom, this is like a moving work of art. An amazing amount of time dedicated completing the work then sharing it with this community. Hats off to you.
Hello David;

Hope all is well, seems an age since we met up on your way North.

Thanks for yet another set of kind and encouraging works Sir. It is posts like this that keep me going and I’m glad you like what you see and read. I do try to spend the time to write up comments to do the pictures justice. A lot more to come I’m sure as I’m not finished enhancing this A2 just yet.

More to follow when time permits…

Kind regards,

Tom

Volico paint is your friend for the passenger door handle surround.
Afternoon Graham,

Hope all is well. Yes indeed I have 2 tins of Soul here ready to address that very flaw Sir. Just waiting to so some other trim at the same time to not leave half a tin sat in the garage. I like to use it up once it’s been ‘opened’. There are a few areas that need a little revitalisation. All in good time.

Kind regards,

Tom
