Project peperami - (A2Steve)

Time for an update.

Changed the 18 R8 replicas for a set of 16 inch dished wheels.

The wheels were second hand and so had some unsightly laquer bubbling.

Because I want to lower the car on these wheels the budget was too tight to get them refurbed at the moment. So instead I refurbed them myself.

Coated the dish in paint stripper to remove the laquer, wire brush the laquer off and then 3 stage metal polish the bare metal. Finished off with a hand polish with autosol.

Took a fair old amount of time today because each coat of the paint stripper takes an hour to cute.

Very happy with the results though and only cost about £18 for all the materials.

Hi Steve, hope you used a brass wire brush? as steel brush can contaminate them and leave a reaction between the two metals. Did you re-lacquer them?
Look good though!

Glad to help out Steve .... and looking forward to seeing the finished set-up...

Hope your DIY efforts on your alloys give others a bit of confidence to try out a refurb.
Thats the route i took as well when i faced a huge £220 bill to refurb my deep dish RH cups ....

Oh well, perhaps they won't be so shiney in the morning. Hopefully the machine 3 stage polish would have removed any contaminants.

One of the great things about having an older car that's not on finance/lease and has no depreciation worth worrying about, is that you can do What you want to it.

I love my wife and kids more than I can ever describe and wanted them to be a part of this project. So I asked Sam if she would make me a headliner and involve the girls. She had free range and so this weekend made me the following using the girls hand prints as the flowers.

I have to say I was a little apprehensive when I first saw it but now that it's in the car I absolutely love it.

Those little hand prints may make their way to the walls inside the house next, now that they have had some practice ....you did say love them more than you can describe LOL :)

An eye catching creation you have there Steve ,

I hope you have plenty of Ipanema touch up paint left over for the underside of the front bumper.!!

Time now to enjoy driving your A2 Go Cart !!!
