Rear passenger door jammed and will not open

also, once the door is fixed I will let people know on this forum, so they are not facing the same issue as mine.

Hi Tom, the child lock is on so that might not be an option, i have tried that.

many thanks for the prompt reply tho.

Hi,

The child locks are enabled by using your key in a hole on the inside of the rear passenger door (one on each door located near the lock mechanism) see if you can insert your key in that and unset the child locks. Then you can open it from the inside and see if you can fix the lock. (just opening the door in this way may even fix it !)
Play around with the other door to see what I mean.

Foget that useless advice !!
You can't get to the child lock opening with the door shut. (I just checked to make sure)
I suppose you MIGHT be able to get the panel off with the door closed??

I had the same problem 12 years ago and somehow managed to fix it, I just wish I could remember how.

I certainly didn't take to a dealer. I THINK I took the panel off tripped the lock and then it was fine after that.

I think you may be forgetting that the door can't be opened! You need to open the door in order to get the key into the slot to engage/disengage the child locks.

It was pretty obvious that the door can't be opened, I merely forgot that the child lock hole is covered when you close the door !!!!

I may be getting old, but I am not senile yet. It is freezing cold and wet outside so I didn't check first, but I ventured out into the fierce storm and risked my life to check, and posted a correction.

I survived my arctic trek (all 5 metres of it)!!!

Ah, sorry! Check the times of our posts and you'll see that we were typing at the same time.

Thank you both for trying to help again, so far the trip to dealer seem to be the only solution, but they can not fit me in this week and the MOT is due Thursday.

I know for a fact that I was able to fix mine myself with just basic tools but as I say that was 12 years ago. I am pretty sure that I took the door panel off (at least far enough) and released the child lock. Then I opened the door from the inside and checked that everything was working and it was and still is 12 years on!!

Hi Steve, I wish you could remember, I have been trying to have a go but the weather is against me so far.

Hi

Have you tried removing the door panel. (Google the instructions first if you are not sure)
You only have to get the door card to come away from the door enough to move the child lock mechanism.

One of the problems of getting old is that you keep forgetting that you have a lousy memory.

Hi, From what I can remember, it is not only the door card that would need to be removed, there is an additional metal layer in the door that will need to be removed to get to the lock, again once the snow has stopped, which looks unlikely today, I will then have a go. failing that I will be going to a local garage and part with £180-200 plus the cost of a standard MOT.

in addition I will also have to fix the ABS loom on the front nearside which has been broken by the local mechanic while replacing the desk pads.

Hi All, I have managed to open the door, and it was only the small cable connecting the door handle to the lock mechanism. you do not need to open the entire door to fix this, but some simple glue will do the trick. glad i have not been paying the £200 dealer cost for a new lock.

I presume you mean the cable that goes from the exterior handle to the lock, that can't be much more than an inch long...?

correct, it was only £4 from the local part shop. it is indeed the small cable connecting exterior handle to the lock.

Ah, so that explains why you couldn't open the door from the outside and why the handle was standing slightly proud. The door also couldn't be opened from the inside due to the child locks, but the lock itself was unlocking.

Glad it's sorted.

Tom
