retro fit steering wheel

oh well looks like i'm way over my head here. maybe i should steer clear from this mod then... (pun intended). what do you think skipton, is it worth it or will it be too difficult for me to do? skipo you've got the german peeps talking about your tank!

Chuck - unless you know what you're doing, don't bother. If you want me to help, I'll gladly do the work for you, if you get me the parts - we're not a million miles apart from each other either.

Cheers,

Mike

PS It's nice to have one up on the nation that gave birth to this great car!

if you could help me that would be great. ok i'll see if i can gather all that is needed and let you know when the time comes.:D

Yes, the clue is in the question: An M12 splined bolt needs a 12mm spline bit to remove it.

ANy good hardware shop can supply these bits, which must be used in a torwue wrench.

Cheers,

Mike

Sir, is this the bit we're talking about?

Would i be right in saying that an A4 (2001 - 2006) 3 spoke steering wheel would fit into an A2 Se without that much difficulty?

Also, would a multifunction wheel be easy to connect into the concert system?

Cheers in advance.

As long as it's a pre-face-lift A4, then yes, no trouble at all. If it's a later model with the newer type 3-spoke wheel (where the airbag mimics the grille shape) then it will physically fit, but the airbag system will need to be modified to work with the A2s single stage airbag control system.

As far as MFSW goes, you'll need the control box (looks like a big relay), the connector plates, extra wiring and possibly a new slip-ring module to pass the MFSW signals to the control module.

If it's the later system, using thumb rollers, don't even think about it - I haven't figured it out yet!

Cheers,

Mike

Whoa I was close to getting a s-line with the thumb rollers. Hey Mike your TT wheel, is it smaller in diameter than the standard 4 spoke se wheel?

Further to the retro-fit wheels.....

1. Is the diameter of the A4 (2001 - 2006) the same as the A2 Sport 3-spoke?

2. Would a wheel from a 98-2000 TT fit as a straight swap??

Ta!

Yes it is - about an inch and a half actually - it really feels a lot better in the hand than even the old-style 3-spoker.

Cheers,

Mike

Yes and yes (although by now, it may be getting a bit shiny/shabby!).

I need BIG HELP!
Just fitted the three spoke wheel, though I can’t refit the horn wires in it.
many help?
I have to solder something ?
or I need to search for some different adapter?

I had the same issue on a car I bought that the previous owner had swapped the se wheel for a sports one. I managed to modify the connector (though I’m damned if I can remember how) and it worked fine subsequently. Someone like @timmus or @2work would be able to tell you I’m sure. The other option is someone like @A2Steve @Clackers or @Ami might be able to provide you with the correct connector

I remember buying the correct loom from my local Audi dealer quite a while back. It wasn't expensive...around £20. One of our ethical breakers may have one cheaper. 👍
