As purely a mode of transport, then it would be hard to justify buying an A2 over say something like a Fiesta, Jazz, Civic etc. etc. But there are other less tangible things that come into the purchasing decision like looks, brand, technology, build quality, exclusivity etc. etc. Taking all things into consideration then buying an A2 because it fulfills your transport needs, and by the way it's a funky, sophisticated, good looking, unique, well built, prestigious car probably justifies the price to those who went out and bought one.
All cars are built to a price, it's just that the A2's cost to build is more than your average 'supermini' and sales volumes a lot less. Even though the A2 is expensive, you can see at least see where the money went. The aluminium construction and that interior do not come cheap, but to most punters is not worth paying for because it adds no value for them ... espcially at trade in time. Yes you will probably take a hit on the car depreciation wise, but then at least you enjoyed the ownership experience ... well most of us anyway. Keep the car for the long haul (4 years or more), and it won't be such a bad 'investment'. It's a bit of a shame that some of those little extras that you would expect on a car of this price have been dropped like heated mirrors, rear electric windows, a spare wheel ...
PS If you read road test reports on a Fiesta, they will tell you that the interior is cheap and plasticky, and the engines are very slow. Not qualities you would level at an A2.
